Peter has claimed to be the "undisputed" champion... even though Wladimir Klitschko holds the IBF, WBO, and IBO belts, and Chagaev holds a belt as well. All of them are going down, Peter said after taking the crown from Maskaev. I can beat any boxer in the world. Im the best heavyweight. Im undisputed. He also claimed in one interview to be "undefeated" as well as "undisputed", noting his 30 - 1 record. Is the man as stupid as he seems? The man is a powerful slugger, but is badly outclassed in all aspects of fighting, save for power and possibly chin, by Wladimir Klitschko. A very nervous and tentative Wladimir easily beat Peter despite three KD's. A confident Wladimir, like the one we have seen since Manny Steward has put his imprint on Wladimir's style, and one who has a string of victories over decent opposition since his debacles at the hands of Sanders and the iron-chinned Brewster (said victories including Samuel Peter and Brewster in a rematch), will simply destroy Peter. Peter was knocked down and badly hurt by Jameel McCline, who is not anywhere near Wladimir Klitschko in terms of boxing skills or athleticism, and that does not bode well for Peter in a rematch with Wlad. First, we get to see if Peter can defeat the elder Klitschko - one who has years of ring rust, a history of knee & back problems that prevent him from training long & hard, or taking a few tune-up fights. By all rights Peter should just walk through Vitali Klitschko on his road to a rematch with Wladimir. I doubt that this will happen. I think that if, and that is a really big if, Vitali can stay injury-free through camp, spar a lot of rounds with people who emulate Peter's style well, and come into the ring at 80% of what he was in the Danny Williams and Corrie Sanders fights, he beats Peter's face into a bloody mess over 6 to 8 rounds. Vitali has a good, perhaps even great, chin, which negates Peter's only real weapon a bit. If the ref will enforce the rules about hitting to the back of the head, Peter will be in trouble. Vitali is too tall for Peter, and he uses his height well. Vitali at 80% is light years ahead of Long, the tall fighter who appeared to be looking for a soft spot to land from the opening bell in his match with Peter. It all depends on Vitali's ability to work through the camp without injury, and somehow get some of the rust off. Can he do it? I hope so. I always liked Vitali Klitschko, and a high-profile comeback from a series of injuries that results in a win in a championship bout would be good for the sport.I hope he then gets to beat on Hasim Rahman just to prove a point. It begs the questiono we want vitali klitschko back whilst his brother is trying to unify the division. They have both stated they will not fight each other, but want to hold titles simultaneously. So if vitali does come back and wins, then who the hell will be linear champ?? the best 2 in the division would be wlad and vitali, but they would not fight. so i think it will be more damaging, and wlad should just try and unify and become recognised as undisputed/linear champ. unless of course we all wait and see what david haye has in stall for the heavyweight duo of wlad and vitali.....but we wouldnt want to start that thread yet again!!!
Samuel doesn't seem too bright thats for sure. I rember him claming he fought with a broken hand against McLine, only for those commnets to be retracted by his coach (Peter 'misspoke' apparently). Was he too think to realise that in fact people would find out that it was a blatent lie?
English is the main language in Nigeria. His name is Samuel Peter. That's about as English as you get. Plus he's lived in the US for about 10 years now. Honestly, I've never heard that he speaks any language other than English.
Boy, I like this thread. All comments right on the button. Sam "the Missing Link" Peter. Not exactly what most expect a heavyweight world champ to be. Appearance, skills, the ability to think on his feet or just plain think period. Poor bugger. Everyones going to have a lot of fun with this guy.
