Did Peter's management make a mistake in fighting Chambers?

Chambers is a defensively very well schooled fighter with fast hands, but slow feet. Peter just got humiliated by an 4 year inactive Vitali Klitschko and now has another struggle on his hands. Would it have been better to have him fight a fringe contender and get his confidence level higher?

Incidentally, it will be interesting to compare Peter's performance to Povetkin's against Fast Eddie.

I don't believe it was a bad choice for Peter. Both men are highly overrated and will likely never be champions however, while Peter may not be a biggest puncher in the game, he's certainly got a big edge over Chambers in this area. I think that once Peter tastes Chamber's lack of power he's going to walk right through him. If Chambers come to the fight in poor shape as he's done in the past his stamina may play a part too, but then again Peter is always out of shape as well.

I predict a close fight but once Peter lands it's all over. Peter by KO by 9.

I don't agree, I still think Chambers can achieve things...and certainly more than Peter has. People undervalue the Povetkin fight too much, a fight that Chambers learnt a lot from against someone that does not normally have close fights.

Peter looked like he learned some new tricks in the Toney rematch, only to then regress in the following fights with McCline, Maskaev and Vitali to the straight-ahead brawler. If Chambers has his head on right he can take this one, and make Peter look bad doing it.

I'll be having my money on Chambers UD12.

This is a bad styles matchup for Peter, maybe even worse than fighting Gomez, whose chin was shattered by Diaz, the same Diaz Peter had a field day with when they fought. I think this fight will look similar to Toney/Peter 1, where one lands more, and the other lands with more effective shots. It should be an interesting match none the less.

Chambers is not that great but he is surely a bad style matchup for a guy with no boxing technique to speak of like Peter. Peter thrives on slow, stationary targets. Hecan still beat Chambers but there are certainly "easier" fights.

Lets get it out of our heads if its a bad matchup style wise.......it makes sense by mere fact to see who is better.

Can Chamners win decision with his brand of defensive boxing and thus possibly nulify Vitai win or at least somewhat diminish it?

Or can Peter win against a top 20 guy who happens to be up and coming and thus force himself back into the scene?

Boxing is losing the fight with other sports becuase matchmakers, fans and everyone involved never let these matchups happen in the first place.

Im hoping the new breed like Haye and Povetkin once are champions continue there mantra of fighting the best available opponents.

No, unlike the KLITs Peter's team has the confidence to put him against the best who will fight him.

From a promoter's perspective, yes they might have made a mistake. As a fan I think they're doing the right thing. Same could be said from Eddie Chambers' perspective. The factor of a 'puncher's chance' is always exciting.

Sam Peter just appears like that guy that'll run into anything guns blazing. Which is admirable, but somewhat foolish in hindsight (i.e. his recent loss). He's a limited fighter with the heart to want to take anybody on. Kinda like Earnie Shavers*.

Of course from a promoter's perspective you would want to see your fighter take on a lesser contender. It would make sense if you'd like to build your fighter back up. I can guarantee what you speculate isn't wrong at all, however that's not Sam Peter. He always seemed like he was full of blind ambition. His statements (outside of his unusual post-fight talks) were to the point, "I want to be champ".

I love this approach because I love it when a fighter is willing to do anything to stay at the top. He could have meandered around at the fringe and taken on men like Demetrice King or Ray Mercer, but he's taking on dangerous contender Eddie Chambers. Who doesn't like a fighter that decides to take 'em all on?

Also, this is perfect because Peter just came off a title loss. If Chambers wins, he might get that title shot he's been aiming for. Not to mention they are BOTH high ranking contenders not padding their stay at the top. As a fan people should be excited, not concerned.

    * However, I think Earnie Shavers was a slightly smarter fighter, and he would possibly win in a theoretical match up.

Chambers is going to school Peter. Poor Samuel has ZERO skill and looked like a buffoon against Vitali Klitschko.

Peter's power is overrated the guy has not KOed anyone of note. Matter of fact Peter has only KOed one fighter out of the best fighters he has faced.

This fight will put to rest the myth of Sam Peter.

    100-90 Fast Eddie Chambers.

Eh, I think Peter's likely to register a questionable knockdown, kind of maul Chambers around without landing many clean punches, and cop a split decision.
