Did Rashad offer up anything to suggest he can test Jones ??? .........

Re-read EVERY single post in this thread, there were disagreements, but we were debating like adults. Then re-read your contribution.

 

Ah I missed the point about this fight shouldnt take place. I just brought up the wait and see thing (which I totally agree on), because people are either in this camp, or go over board in their praise. Wasnt intentionally singling you out, was just pointing out that I think this style match up is all wrong for Evans, and Im not on the Jones Gloat Boat

 

Yeah I agree. I favour Jones against Evans but I favoured Penn against Edgar and Fedor against Werdum, and we know how those two fights went. You never know how the mind of a fighter can short-circuit and there's the added complication of these two being former training partners. You never know what mental edge one fighter has built in sparring a la Liddell-Ortiz and Silva-Belfort

He looked in incredible shape and the knee to the stomach was devastating. For me, the friendship, bad blood between camps, experience of sparring each other etc is what make Jones vs Evans a good fight. Plus Evans is legitimately the no1 contender. Silva, Jackson, Ortiz is a nice streak.

No, he can't test Jones, because no matter how ripped or explosive Rashad looks, his glass jaw is going to shatter into a thousand pieces the first time Jones lands a punch, kick, elbow or knee. The fight will end in the first round.

For once, I think you're spot on. Jones is superior to Rashad in every way, grappling or standing, and Rashad is not Shogun and isn't going to be around after the first bit of heavy artillery lands.

He look good but he shouldn't try to strike with jones. Jones would knock him the **** out. He needs to take him down and try to keep him there with his ground and pound. This is the only way i can see him winning this fight.

If he stands against jones, his getting KTFO worst than he did vs machida.

 

Anytime Jones has faced a good wrestler, he has thrown them around like empty tracksuits (Bader, Hamill). The guy has freak strength because of his huge frame and dimensions. He would shrug little Rashad off him as easy as blowing some dandruff off his shoulders.

 

One thing though is that Hamill and Bader both use their strength to get guys down. They couldn't overpower Jones so were screwed.

Evans is usually the smaller man when he fights and usually uses his speed to catch the other guy off balance. He could certainly do that against Jones, particularly with how Jones is guilty of overextending himself on strikes.

Again I want to see the Rampage fight before we rush to conclusion about Jones-Evans. Shogun never looks great against wrestlers and he clearly didn't show up in top condition at UFC 128. I'd have back Evans to beat that Rua just as easily although not as impressively.

I don't view Evans as having any speed advantage over Jones. Machida made Evans look like a black Tank Abbott at times in their fight. I don't mean to be so dismissive, but I genuinely cannot see anything Rashad can do in this fight, he's just too overmatched. Rashad is a wrestler who relies on speed and explosiveness, and he's going in with a better wrestler who is faster and more explosive.

I do believe there are guys out there who can test and trouble Jones (namely Machida, Henderson, a fully fit Rua and even possibly Phil Davis as he looks to be the only guy who could match Jones for grappling strength), but at least in my opinion, Rashad Evans stylistically is not one of the guys who can test Jones. It'll be a complete blow-out of a fight.

 

Well you're in luck if he fights Jones because a short wrestler with a Glass Jaw who struggles with tall, rangy fighters is bound to get his Mandible shattered violently when faced with a super lanky kickboxer who is also the best wrestler in his division and routinely dispatches other wrestlers with the ease of one swatting a fly.

It's irrefutable, Evans is going to get his China Chin crushed early.
