Did Ricky Hatton use an American style of boxing? Its a style that is not often used in the UK, but I have seen American boxers use that style, like Ruiz, Hopkins and Ward. All use the punch, hold and wrestle method and with Hopkins and Ward, they like Holyfield have added the use of the head as a weapon. Discuss
No. He was a pretty good boxer before the Tszyu fight. The style he used for that fight seemed to stick and he fought on with that mauling style.
Ricky was a good little boxer with pretty good skills until he fought Collazo. Never the same after that , broken nose , out for a year and looked considerably slower on his return. Holds less than Hopkins and Ward, but because he is white he is called a brawler.
No. He didn't fight while drugged up to the gills on PEDs like Jones Jnr, Toney, Mosley, Broner, Ward, etc.
I have no idea how to label someone who's style consisted of bouncing around, clinching and blocking punches with his face
Hug and hit Hatton created a style of his own. Was a big fan of his early career but then he became an absolute pain to watch.
Didnt hold against Paulie. Floyd held first. Did hold alot against Collazo , but it wasnt any more than Ward.
I'm not comparing him to anyone. He looked good against Paulie. The tzsyu fight was a disgrace. Many other fights he held. Agree to disagree I guess.
I'm pretty certain I remember reading an interview with Hatton's trainer Billy Graham where he said he was influenced a lot by American trainers. I'm fairly certain he also said that he went over to the US and studied under the tutelage of some of the great ones, too.
