Morrison alway said that they did and that he got the better of Bowe with his bodyshots.....But I think Bowe would have spanked him in the pro's.
Bowes manager Rock Newman used to tell the press that Morrison would not fight him when both fighters were on the way up. After Morrison beat Foreman, Rock Newman wanted Tommy Morrison in the ring. He saw $$$ signs galore. Bowe vs Morrison would have been a huge fight PPV fight. Newman would whistle the Who's tune. " Tommy can you hear me " tune to the press when being asked about the potential match up. One day Rock Newman and Morrison's manager, Bill Clayton meet to discuss what could have been a huge PPV event. Newman was one of those angry racy types involved with the Nation is Islam. Quite a few leaders of the Nation of Islam attended Bowe's fights. Both Newman and the Nation of Islam wanted Bowe to be 1990s Muhammad Ali type of figurehead for the movement. Newman sent Bowe on a trip to Africa, and tried to mold Bowe into thinking and talking as Ali did. The trouble was Bowe just was not interested in politics. Back to the fight that never was. It fell apart. Clayton told the press Bowes brain trust had a change of heart on the match, and hinted that the Nation of Islam pressured Newman into balking on the fight. I suppose the thought of Bowe losing to a " white hope " fighter of the times was too much to risk. So Morrison and Bowe never fought. Bowe would later disappoint the leaders of the Nation is Islam with his gluttony, poor training habits, and out side the ring troubles. In time, the Nation of Islam lost interest in Bowe, but Newman pretty much stuck with his gravy train until Bowe went to prison.
Bowe wasn't invulnerable, but he seemed literally impossible to put away for good. Morrison would wear himself out beating Bowe so badly he'd be brain damaged in a decade for it before Bowe put him away. Would of loved to see this one, though.
