Discuss. After that Rigo fight, Nonito seems to have lost all of his confidence and has not ever fought the same as before. Not even on the same level.
no one ruins anyone plenty of fighters get beaten up or lose badly then come back better he just could not compete
i´m beginning to wonder, if he perhaps was a little overrated. This was the first time, that i can recall where donaire had a pshysical disadvantage, not by much, but just slightly. This meant he easely lost the jabbing contest, if he was ever a part of it. Donaire seemed faster, to hit a tad harder and with better movement, but all this was taken away by power and willingnes to trade, This left me wondering, like i wrote in the first line, if i had perhaps overrated donaire. He does seem to have a shaky set of whiskers too. He is still a very good fighter though, perhaps he should move down, if that is even possible.
Don't think he was ever that good imo, but he did well for himself with his limitations, he just isn't an elite fighter. Rigo showed the class between them. Now he's looking more and more like a B level fighter, no offence.
Rigo didn't ruin donaire. Moving up in weight ruined donaire. He doesn't have the skills to compete at the higher weight.
I don't think any fighter gets ruining in a fight unless they get brutally ko'ed and if they do they aren't world class fighters and mentally weak... Nonito is not big enough for the weight, his strength was always his power which Altho he still hits hard it's not as devistating as it was at lower weight classes All his impressive wins have been ko's not boxing master classes, he can't ko elite opposition at his current weight If u wanna b skeptical u can also refer to the fact he's looked half the fighter since he signed up to year round drug testing tho I'd not like to point to that tho some might... His physique also at the weigh in looked like he's never been in a gym
Donaire has benefited from being able to boil down and fight at the lower weights. That plus the fact that he always seems to go for the KO is what has led to his downfall. No head movement, winging shots hoping for the home-run, and not listening to his corner are his biggest issues to date. Not to mention, having his dad and Garcia in the corner is not good. Either get rid of Garcia or dad, but you can't have both. It's counter-productive. I think if Donaire had boxed and tried to counter, he would have done far better against Walters. Walters didn't exactly have Whitaker type defense, so I think Donaire could have caught him if he hadn't tried to bang with him.
I have to disagree no fighter gets ruined in a fight unless its late on his career that's different case even fighters getting knocked out if they have the talent and heart they will make it for example wlad was knocked out early in his career by 2 guys did he get ruined? no he did not he came back even stronger breaking records
Thinking that he would end every fight with a KO is what "ruined" him. The same reason he lost to Rigo in the first place.
It's certainly not a blanket statement ofc some fighters have come back from ko's to go on to enjoy very successful careers, Tommy Hearns springs to my mind but it is far more likely that a fighters career can be ruined by a ko rather than a lopsided points defeat If u get beat on a wide point decision u can accept that u were beaten by a better fighter on the night but a brutal ko stays with a fighter and reduces their punch resistance, it can totally change how a fighter fights thus making them not the fighter they were Bute, Montiel , Paul Williams, Chad Dawson, Juan Manuel Lopez r recent examples of this
You really have to yes but, what's more concerning is that fight should not have ruined Nonito. He did not take a physical pummeling, a one sided boxing lesson yes but, that should not have ruined him to that level. I think it's a combination of factor's with some confidence beaten out him, a fragile mind set, and the weight move.
