Years ago I thought he was a great change on the HBO team, but last night the whole team just made me less sad that HBO's chucking it. Some of the chestnuts, if I remember it right, involved Roy basically acting like Bivol was a puncher like Kovalev (lol) just with a different choice of how much he's putting on his punches and fervently denying that getting the crap punched out of him had anything to do with Pascal hitting the canvas. Couldn't even entertain the possibility! And on any given night he also implies that what he did to Griffin is basically on the same level as any random minor thing any fighter does but only Roy paid for it, the poor guy. I never thought I'd say it but Kellerman is probably the least biased guy on the team with the most objectivity. Is Roy as bad as I think or was he as good as I used to think? Did he change a lot or nah?
I don`t if he changed but watching on youtube he was much better than Merchant during his commentary on the Whitaker v DLH, but Jones is completely deluded and compared GGG`s knockout before the second Canelo fight to him being disqualified fighting Griffin which screamed of arrogance and jealousy, Malinaggi is a much better commentator I feel.
Roy was much better when he first started out as a commentator, but now he is horrendously biased in favour of the house fighter. He used to be insightful and a fair judge. I think all TV networks should only employ a commentator for a maximum of 3 years. As I find its inevitable that they all become part of the bubble, and are no longer objective. i am reminded of Johny Nelson claiming that Bellew was a better boxer than Usyk before their fight in order to hype up the house fighter. Yes, that is how insanely biased Nelson is and he should be replaced too.
