Did Roc Nation Make A Mistake?

I'd say it's too early to say that it's a mistake just yet. They have convinced Ward to move up and that might give Ward more options and who knows what the future will bring and who he could fight. A few years from now it could be seen as a great move.

But no doubt the first year with Ward has been bad, not just for Roc Nation but Ward as well. Roc Nation are showing their lack of experience and I doubt Ward is 100% happy with the last year either. Ward maybe the one to regret signing with Roc Nation as many fighters are now with Haymon and are now impossible as future opponents.

Both sides need to learn from their mistakes and the fact they are already looking for a future opponent suggests they have learned not to try and just put a fight together at the last minute like they tried to do for the Canelo/Cotto undercard.

 

Remember Rocnation are the same guys who bought Tidal (music streaming company from Norway) and thought they could compete with guys like Apple or Spotify. The company seems to be plagued by a mix of inexperience, naivety and arrogance when it comes to establishing new fields of business.

They honestly thought they'd just sign a bunch of American American fighters, make some random fights and rake in multi-million revenues? Just like Tidal, their boxing business is losing them millions and it's a question of time to see if they can break even or will have to close shop. Most likely the latter.

 

Ward is at that age whereby he should be capitalising fully on his prime years. One fight in the last 24 months -- a win over Paul Smith at 172 catchweight -- simply isn't good enough for a boxer of Ward's undeniable talent.

 

Ward is probably getting paid no matter if he's active or not. He probably doesn't care what Rocnation is doing with his career as long as the checks keep coming.

 

Roc Nation sports also have Miguel Cotto on their books, right?

Yep. So is Tidal. These guys need to realise having Jay Z's money behind you is not a guarantee of success. These days, he's not even finding success in the music world with Rita Ora desperately trying to get out of her contract with him.

 

Rigo for 10 million also...but Ward was a mistake

 

Definate mistake with Ward, they must of been laughing when they managed to pick up an unbeaten P4P contending, super 6 winning American world champion. They believed his lack of ring time was due to those contract he had been having, as did alot of ppl, me included.

But it has all gone to s,hit big time and he has so far cost them a hell of alot more than he has made them. He is getting ripped up in the media and on places like this about Kovalev and just general lack of progression at any weight let alone lightheavy.
