Mentally, that fight took some iron from Lopez. You would think after taking hard shot from someone like Mtagwa he'd improve his defense. Family problems or, no family problems, Lopez should improve his defense. He's getting knocked down over and over. Only time will tell.

What ruined him is he and his corner were/are too stupid to make any adjustments. Guy already almost got Ko'd and kept fighting like he was superman.

I think the thing here is that Juan Manuel Lopez was actually a limited fighter with world class punching power. His lack of defense and skills were an obvious result of Lopez relying too much on his power. Moreover, him ballooning in weight shows a lack of discipline. Regardless of what people think fights are won in the gym. Salido gets full credit for ending Lopez' prime.

His lack of work ethic did it. He's very talented but talent won't take you to the next level in any sport, you still have to work, it took him pretty far here, but blowing up so much between fights in weight is a big issue. Some guys can get away with it like Winky did for so long, but not this guy, he needs to concentrate on conditioning and not gain at least 30 pounds between fights, its probably more. Hardly anybody can do that successfully, especially at such a low weight class to begin with.

It didn't ruin him, but it did expose the blueprint to beating him.

    That fight did nothing.

Juanma's technique started taking a dive as he began to believe his own hype.

The only thing wrong with him is a lack of focus in and outside the ring.

He went from a boxer puncher, who changed distance, set you up for counters, and took the KO when it came. To a plodding stalker, who simply stands in front of his man flat footed.

Arum says he was very heavy coming into the camp, I believe that because his punches were so slow and lacked any snap. He needs to get focused and see if he can win a rematch, IF AND ONLY IF HE CAN MAKE 126lb SAFELY.

If he can't simply move on. And try his luck at 130lb

The win over Ponce did it, he did that with such ease that he never seemed to progress afterwards.

JuanMa just fell in love with his power without improving his bad defense.
