Ya Roy was fighting guys with multiple losses after Toney .. I don't buy that ..Just feel their were better guys for him to fight .. and Nunn was the fight .. Would have been biggest payday for him so really no excuses there .. He did offer him the fight I believe but low balled so bad it wasn't happening ..

For example? Which fighters would you have like to see him fight?

Gerald was ahead against Benn on the scorecards but many fel he was losing and he looked really confused and open, I feel Gerald would of had to give Benn a rematch before his fight with Roy meant anything, he didn`t look right in that fight at all.

He should of fought Nigel Benn after Nigel exposed Gerald, but Benn didn`t have as many KO`s percentage wise at SMW as he did at middle, he did knock Dan Sherry out though with a punch that would of KO`d Roy except it was just a wild punch that happened to land, it was the speed of it that caught Sherry and that`s why Benn was dangerous at middle problem was his trainers were crap when he was at middle but he was a deadly punches at that stage it`s just that Jones was still an amateur, when Benn blew Barkley away (another puncher Jones could of fought) Roy was fighting in the olympics and hadn`t made his name by the time Benn had his last fight at middle (a loss to Eubank). In any case I feel Jones would have beaten Benn it`s just that Roy was safety minded and didn`t even want to fight anyone with a punchers chance, he might not have even thought Lemiux as a middle had he been young at this time! We all saw what Saunders did to Lem! Roy might not even of taken that risk!

Nunn was only convincing in one fight at SMW and that was his rematch with Cardoba, he just couldn`t match Roy`s speed at SMW and didn`t knock many SMW`s out so I don`t think he is relevant to this thread because I don`t think he could knock Roy out, the best shot he threw was the one that knocked Kalambay out but most of Nunn`s shots were just point scorers with very little impact and I don`t think Nunn had the chin to take Roy`s best shot as Toney proved at middle.

The contenders at SMW had a better chance of hitting Roy than the lumbering Ruiz, Roy knew his speed would be too much for a slow heavyweight, Ruiz was hardly Tyson was he? I think Floyd Paterson in his prime at heavy would have been far more dangerous for Roy than a bum lie Ruiz was.

    i mean, i dunno.

I agree that for a HW champion Ruiz is "not a stellar example" lol (as my biochem prof used to say post my exam mark release) but still a HW, and a fair one.

Your right. Benn would have been a dangerous fight.

I think ALL fighters know whose dangerous and who's not for them, I think they all know too they can have a bad night and it could cost them, however, I do believe true fighters are willing to fight damn near anybody...

and given what we later learned about RJJ, shows he might not have been one of those fighters.

I wanted to see him fight a real pressure fighter like Darius M. but never came off. Jones was an amazing talent. He missed a few but also fought many like most of the greats but I wouldnt call him a ducker. One or 2 guys you get a pass, some fights are hard to be made

I still think Nunn vs Jones would have been interesting.
Hell Jones would have beat the hell out of Darius-different levels of skill.
Thulane Maligna gave Eubank a run for his money and years later beat Benn after earlier losing a close decision to Benn.
Jones TOYED with Maligna and then knocked him out .
Reggie Johnson was a very good boxer and Jones DOMINATED him like no other .The same Johnson that list a spilt decision to TONEY and TARVER.
Jones for awhile was in a class by himself and a lot of boxers wanted no part of him and I don't blame them .
Toney and Hopkins are future HOF and Jones beat both rather easily.
Virgil Hill was also a very good boxer- and Jones CRUSHED him in 4 rounds. And I'm a Hill fan but he couldn't do a thing with Jones.
Jorge Castro hit hard enough to stop a boxer who had chin issues yet Jones EASILY beat him. And Castro was 70-3 at the time .
The fight with G Man would have been dangerous for Jones for about 3 rounds. After that Jones stops him inside of 10.

Tarver gave Johnson a beatdown. The split decision made no sense.
