After defeating Ruiz, Jones should have either issued the ultimate challenge against Lennox OR he should have dropped the WBA belt and fought the rest of his career non-title. By going non-title, he could have fought at his most comfortable weight and not have to listen to any alphabet boys.

interesting post soldier. having heard many people quote calzaghe's autobiography with regards to jones on here, i've spent the last few days reading the book for the 1st time and found the following quotes from calzaghe much more interesting

" I was one of his biggest fans but you have to question why his performance levels completely dipped from the moment it transpired a few years ago that he had failed a drugs test in a fight in Indiana against another american, Richard Hall. All of a sudden, he fell from the premiership to league 2, from being absolutely peerless, to distinctly average "

" If I had of fought Jones at his peak and got beaten, I would feel swindled today, knowing that he had taken steroids. Its cheating, theres no other word for it, and I don't know how it managed to be swept under the carpet for a number of years and he went totally unpunished "

" If steroids can make athletes run faster, they can surely help a boxer to hit harder and to hit faster and to hit quicker and to hit for longer and this will help him to inflict more punishment, which I think is repulsive"

I have noticed a trend amongst my opposition as well as when observing other debates.

When one debater begins to feel the heat of the battle, he/she attempts to change the civilised boxing debate into off topic nonsense and personal bull****.

So I think I need to begin switch hitting to keep a civilised boxing discussion on going.

After analysing this post, I have come up with these rough estimations.

    Off Topic bull****: 55%
    Civilised boxing debate: 45%

Thank you for this insight, I have never read Calzaghe's autobiography and I dont intend to read it also because honestly I dont give a flying skud bout the man's life in the valleys.

I have come across the article that Team Elite has posted over 87+ times over and over in various threads, regarding Roy Jones Jr's PED intake, and to be honest I think its being blown way out of proportion.

RJJ is the most athletically toughest fighter that has ever stepped in the ring. While people are aware of Sweet pea whitaker atheletic refexes, those occured while Whitaker was making defensive moves.

RJJ used to make these atheletic reflexes while on the attack. There has never been a boxer to have done it like RJJ, Knocking out a fighter while have two hands behind the back. I dont care, even if you knock out a bum with two hands behind your back that is some legendary ****.

While this above is usually agreed upon by the vast masses of the viewing public, there is a small minority who say RJJ was a beast due to PED's.

Then how comes other proven steroid and PED users never done it like Roy.

Sugar Shane Mosley was getting beaten up by Hoya, Winky, and Forrest during is PED years.

A young Mike Tyson had that same aheletic reflex attack, but the older drug using Tyson wasnt able to roll back the clock despite drug intake.

James Toney. You already know about James Toney:lol:

    And many more.

But in regards to Joe Calzaghe changing his tune constantly, you have seen him praise RJJ and also call him shot.

I think Calzaghe just didnt want RJJ knowing he would be pwned, so said these things. And when he felt RJJ is shot and right for the picking, Calzaghe just went in and cashed out.

Does anyone know where I can buy the kind of PEDS Roy Jones used? I have a bunch of people on my local pub I'd like to beat up single handed without taking a single punch myself.

this is the kind of attitude i just don't understand, why would someone wish to trivialise steroid abuse in a sport where fighters put their life on the line?

no one is saying that roy jones wouldn't have been a world champion without steroids. its like saying that ben johnson wouldn't have been a good sprinter without steroids, of course he would, if johnson was clean he would have probably been a 10.1 runner for the 100m instead of the 9.84 runner he was in 1988.
