The WBC ,WBA and IBF were the only way to track true lineage ..Spinks before Jones was the last man to have held all 3 belts .

After doing a little research I found something very interesting ,the WBO title was never even a criteria for the undiputed championship until 07 .

The last guy to have held the distiction of the lineal champ before the DM,Hill Jones mess was Spinks .He held the 3 majors and the Ring .Once he vacted the belts were up for grabs ..Those 3 belts were not unfiied until Jones in 99 i think ...How could Hill and Make have fought for the lineal title when all 3 previous belts were not up for grabs and they decided true lineage ?

To be the man in the division you had to of had the 3 majors ..The criteria has changed since then ..But thats how it can be traced ..


Hill and Maske were two belt holders but never unfied the division ..This is why imo Jones can have a claim to that distinction and considering he basically did the same thinhg Spinks did prior ..

He started losing at LHW after he drained back down to 175 post Ruiz. There should be an asterisk after the Tarver and Johnson losses IMHO but that obviously isn't how boxing works.

I really don't see how Hill and Maske holders of the IBF and WBA determined lineage when it was usually the undisputed champ that determened that ,such was the case with Spinks who was also the lineal champ as well as undisputed.


I also don't get how the current WBC champ can be regarded as the lineal champ when that would contradict everything you just wrote ..How is the lineal title established with out the WBC ?

If neither Dm Hill or even Gonzalez held the WBC how could they lay claim to the lineal title ? This is why I put more stock in undiputed champs than this alphabet soup ! I also don't get how Jones and Tarver can be dismissed when they held the very same title that established lineage with Dawson and Pascal .

Spinks was Lineal/WBA/WBC champion. Then the IBF was formed, and he was the first IBF light heavyweight champion.

No. Spinks beat Qawi to become Lineal, undisputed, irrefutable world champion. Jones never boxed the man, or challenged for the vacant Lineal title.

Throughout boxing history, the Lineal championship has always been the true world championship. The IBF and WBO coming along in the 80s only served the dilute the titles and confuse things even further if there was no established Lineal champion. Hill/Maske/DM created a legitimate Lineage.
