been thinking how good roy could have been had he kept roy sr as his trainer even after the embarrasing calazaghe loss, against lacy and sheika (neither of who i rate whatsoever) he did look very good and his hand speed, coordination, timing and endurance looked way up and this seemed to be down to him having big roy back in his corner and training at roy sr gym roy sr also seems to have great boxing knowledge just didnt seem to have his legs but looked miles better than he had since before the first tarver loss also watched the calzaghe fight, and there wasa round where alton merkerson said nothing in the entire break between one of the rounds when roy was getting whooped roy sr also seems to have great boxing knowledge [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxNpZZQ6VFM[/ame] so basically 1 how good a trainer is roy sr 2 how good a trainer is alton
I think Sr would've been better at kicking Jones ass to train more. Seemed like he got lazy, but that's normal if you're unbeaten for 15+ years. His sparring opponents also weren't the best.
yeah thats a good point just looking at performances before and after with roy sr ko loss to glenn johnson roy sr comes back could have ko'd tarver had he put in more effort last couple of rounds as tarver was a dead man battered by calzaghe roy sr comes back beats lacy and sheika with ease and crazy hand speed
he tested positive for andro. That isnt a steroid. It was a legal supplement at the time as well. Silly noob.
His Daddy never let him fight dangerous opposition, although it's clear he trained him well there is a huge point that if Roy jr. would have stood by his dad for his whole career, he probably wouldn't have fought the same level of competition. (which is even still regularly brought into question) [source- Beyond the Glory: RJJ doc]
