Boxrec has a few reports, one that Saldivar won on aggression and a few first hand accounts that Laguna was robbed. Anyone shed much light on this to confirm either way? Have never seen any footage of the fight.
From the footage available it looked a pretty even fight to me. Probably one of those Saldivar-Famechon type fights where it was probably close enough to mount a case for the loser if you were his way inclined at all.
How much is available S_S?? Never seen any of it. Not on YouTube by any chance? At work and can't check ;-) Dug up some California and Texas reports that weresupposedly ringside. Aggression Vs movement, classic 'what do you like' pick by the sounds of it.
Only about 4 rounds on my copy. It's not on youtube as far as I can see... Hadn't heard anything about this fight being controversial actually, but I always felt it looked fairly even from what I saw. 4 rounds isn't much to go by of course...
Like sweet said, the abbreviated copy that has been doing the rounds for years isn't quite enough to go on. It's not a fight i've looked too much into re newspaper reports etc, but it's not difficult to imagine there were some differences of opinion.Saldivar was proficient against elite cute stylist types...but over 15 rounds.Much tougher to put daylight between yourself and the likes of LAguna, Winstone etc in a ten round non-title bout.
Deffo', he was a fighter who built steam as the rounds went on and was insatiable by the time the championship rounds came around (i.e Seki II) The few other things I've pulled up are scant on details, but as aforementioned credit the Mexican with being more aggressive and landing a lot to the body.
