I don't recall hearing any sound smart advice coming from the mouth of Joe Santiago going into the ears of Miguel Cotto. Did anyone hear the "trainer" say anything constructive? or was the overwhelmed and star struck "trainer" basically there carrying the bucket with a towel on his shoulder? Cotto did look ready to go, sharp, strong, balanced, confident, but he was overmatched both in the ring and by the opposing trainer Roach who might be the best in the business right now. Cotto should demote Santiago to assistant, and hire Emanuel Steward. Cotto has never had a great trainer, it might make the difference.
uno mas uno mas.... youre smarter than him...lets go.... no constructive instruction at all. while pacmans team were yelling at him on how to put him down.
It was Cotto who hired Santiago to be his trainer. If anyone should be criticized, it should be Cotto.
Atleast Cotto's corner was trying to fire up Cotto and assure him they are there for him. Unlike that clusterfck with Pavlik's corner "You are only losing the fight not your titles"
uhhhhhh.....YES. The corner is there to reinforce sound boxing and gameplan when fighters stray away from it. It was his job to tell Miguel to keep leading with the jab. He's green, I've hated on Freddie for his criticism...but dude is a genius he knows wtf he's talkin about
Too true Deano.... I also agree that it's Cotto's fault for not getting somebody else in there after his blowout with his uncle. Maybe he will recognize this and make the necessary adjustments.
Most trainers dont need to give advice during the corner. Most advice is giving in the lead up to the fight. Cotto did everything right. Pacman was just beasting out there. Santiago's gameplan was drawn up in the previous 4 months. And it worked early on. So dont give me this BS that he didnt do anything for Cotto.
