You're kidding right? The 2 biggest boxing PPV events ever were within that 6 fight contract. I think showtime did ok.. Pretty sure Pacquiao and Canelo fights on their own would have generated a profit for Showtime, let alone the other 4 fights.
They are easily in the black, and if they could do it again, they would. There are no regrets at CBS/Showtime for this deal, that is for sure.
HBO, again, is the grandmaster. They said TAKE A WALK. They "missed" on the guerrero and 2x madiana ppv's. $96 million to floyd that combined for about 3-3.5m ppv's. They missed on Canelo which was a block buster at $2.4 million. And they got HALF of the manny pacquiao PPV. ......and now Showtime, not HBO, is eating the cost of this garbage Berto fight which might not do 600k. It's truly garbage that nobody will buy. HBO let him walk and still cashed in for 50% on the only PPV of his 6 fight deal that actually mattered....Manny Pacquiao.
Outside of a 160 bout at some point and his last fight vs Berto, I can't really hate on it. Unified 3 WW Titles and 2 JMW Titles, not bad for a supposed cherry picker. Excluding Berto his comp in 5/6 fight ****s on what basically everyone else has done in that time.
