Did Sonnen lost gas and can't follow up or Silva suddenly had TDD?

Well, I'm not reeally sure but watching rounds 2 reminded me of Sonnen-Bisping. Chael seems like he had nothing left on the tank unlike the 1st fight where he mauled Anderson for nearly 5 rounds. Maybe something to do with the testosterone fiasco last year?

Or did Silva just went on with it in round 1 just to boost Sonnen's confidence then actually displayed a solid takedown defense and Chael wasn't able to do anything?

I'd love to hear your inputs.

A career journeyman got his ass kicked by the Champion. All there is too it really

It pains me to agree with you on anything Stoo. But yes and no

I've already said it a few times, but I thought Sonnen gassed in the first bout. When he mounted Spider just prior to being triangled out of there, he threw some absolute cream puff punches, and straight away I wondered if he was gone, and sure enough.

So the UFC gave a career journeyman a title shot vs possibly the best fighter TWO times, just because he's good at trashtalking?

Guys like Cheal, just simple panic when overwhelmed with shots whilst standing up. The guy had know idea how to defend and posttiton himself to avoid clean strikes. Semi understandable the guys spent most of his life as a wrestler on a mat (?), not learning the nuances of how deal with strikes and hence is umcomforatble in combo based exchanges.

The 1st fight just all seemed to go very much his way until the very end. If I remember the recent fight correctly (it was very very late here) he crumbled under fire on more tha one occasion, ultimately at the finish crumbling into a child like defensive heap on the floor after a flurry but no real boot shuddering heavy shots finding there mark from Silva (even the knee wasn't flush).

The fight didn't go his way on the ground, so alot more stand upwas involved and semi wild combos overwhelmed the defensively naive Sonnen.

Couldn't comment on the grappling side of it, but his lack of stand up defensive skill, although may not have entirely cost him the fight, but it sure added to his problems in there.

Yes, he was in the right place at the right time for the first fight. A rematch was warranted, but he's a career choker, literally in his case, and anyone who believed anything different, well...

Well, it's obvious that whoever can't deal with his wrestling, will probably get beaten by him, and wrestling is a big part of the game. So that makes him more than a career journeyman, imo. :conf

No it doesnt. Losing 8 fights in his strongest position does. Wrestling is a big part of the game, but it isnt enough for Chael when he cant punch, cant defend submission and his stand up is non existant

Sonnen gave everything he had in rd 1 and when Silva handled that well, Sonnen was physically and psychological spent come rd 2 and found a way to get out of the fight.

I like Sonnen but i kept coming back to his 11 losses previously.... i just couldn't believe that a man with 11 losses could become the champ.

    Sonnen´s power is simply hilarious.

And boran, I agree 100% with what you said.

From the little MMA I've watched, it seems the best way the expose a glass heart is to swop some leather and bone. :yep
