Was just curious if Robinson who is considered by many as the greatest ever p4p fighter ever was completely dominated and humiliated late in his career? In other words did Sugar Ray Robinson ever have his version of Larry Holmes? Thanks
Don't know what the whole fight looked like but he did lose a UD by constantly catching shots with his face. He's constantly being backed up & jacked up by Tiger Jones This content is protected He was 2-6 going into this fight with Ray who was primed 133-3-2. From what I've read on him he was a solid fighter who lost virtually every major fight Olson, Fullmer, Saxton, but for some reason he beat Ray & Kid Gavilan one time. Some claim it was him coming back from a layoff, but he did win his 1st fight. Interesting also that he went on to fight guys like Fullmer & Olson & Lamotta over & over, but for some reason Ralph Jones wouldn't be on his rematch tour(s).
Not that I'm aware of. He definitely never had a situation as dire as the beating Ali took against Holmes.
In my opinion yes he did. Robinson was really tough. All Robinsons fights in the end were hard and punishing. He was always competitive which just added to the punishment. Overall Robinson took more punishment than Ali ever did. Win or lose it was a beating.
