We all agree it's a DQ, no question about that... it's the rule... But I think even if Concepcion threw a late punch but Luevano was not hit then it's not a DQ... Could be a points deduction only... I saw many boxers in many fights threw late punches after the bell ring... Only that they didn't hit the opponent or didn't hit flush/hard... and they continue fighting...

Luevano was hurt by the punch and knocked down but I think he could have gotten up. The late punch was clear and it was a solid shot--its either rematch or move-on. Not the worst I have seen I think Coggi did worse against Frankie Randall.

    swann,

you crack me up with your reasoning about the luevano/concepcion fight. now, why would luevano "fake" a knockout if he was schooling concepcion? what if nady wouldn't have seen the late punch and proceeded to count out luevano? come on dude, be seriouis. i know you're a concepcion fan but your reasoning doesn't fly. okay, so maybe concepcion didn't hit luevano intentionally but are you absolutely sure he didn't? the dude (concepcion) was frustrated all night long by luevano's boxing clinic. besides, the punch was way after the bell so i do believe concepcion tried to cheap shot his way to a title instead of trying to win it legitimately.

    addressing your points:

1.) luevano would "fake" a knockout because it's an easy win. bernabe is known for his power and the fight was only about halfway done. who knows what could've happened from then until the end of the fight? yes, luevano was winning the fight, but rather than risk catching a good shot and possibly being knocked out, he decided to exaggerate bernabe's foul.

2.) what if nady didn't see the late punch? this is just plain dumb. nady is RIGHT THERE. it's his job to monitor the fighters. what else would nady be watching? it's not a matter of an indiscreet low blow we're talking about. it's a blatant punch following the bell. not to mention that luevano LOOKS DIRECTLY AT NADY following the punch and then proceeds to fall. looks like a quitter to me.

3.) i don't think concepcion hit luevano intentionally. role play for a second. if you were looking to hit someone intentionally, would you wait until WAY after the bell had rang and the opponent had his hands down or would you try to time it so that it coincides with the bell ringing so that there's less risk of being penalized?

    swann,

at least we can agree to disagree. late punch or not, concepcion wasn't going to win that fight. luevano was never hurt in the fight (neither was concepcion) but concepcion looked like he didn't have a clue out there that's why he grew frustrated. but it is what it is. luevano won and concepcion lost and that's the only thing that counts for luevano...and still featherweight world champion!

You have been watching too many highlight reel knock outs on Youtube. Seriously, the boy was rocked and stunned as **** by a wicked punch from a fighter who's known for being heavy handed. You guys are acting as if he was hit by a pillow.

He was dominating the fight he didn't need to quit nor did he need to look for a way out. Abe had his moments in the first round of the fight and the right he landed at the end of the final round before the KO, you must have been too caught up in that KO punch to realized that Luevano was beginning to open up in that round and was starting to paste his face with some hard shots.

There's a very good reason why Abe was so hesitant to follow Freddy's roach game plan and that's because he respected Luevano's power. Sure he might not be the biggest puncher out there, but as I've stated before he has enough pop and accuracy where accumulations of those sharp stinging shots can make his opponents think twice.

I really do think Abe has the tools to defeat Luevano, but he will never be able to if he can't execute his game plan.

He was hurt but it was kind of exaggerated. It was almost Hatton-like.

It looked as if he played on it a little bit but other that Luevano, who is to know?
