I think the fight was so bruising that it went both ways. mugabi took such a physical pounding, that he was never the same afterwards & Hagler was never the same either. He was aging at the time, but this fight took alot out of Hagler.

It ruined him mentally. Mugabi was never the greatest trainer or the most confident of guys it seems and the loss to MMH seriously rattled his self-belief. He kinda gave up against Hagler too.

The Thomas fight, was where he first showed a bit of dog in himself.

^ That's true. I was reading both men were urinating blood aftwards. Does this mean organ damage?

Anyways, I was surpised the way John lost to Duane Thomas. It goes to show you anthing can happen in a fight. I always thought he was a little protected (coddled) with the careful matchmaking. I would have preferred to see him in a fight with peak hitman with the winner getting Hagler in 1985. If he had beaten Tommy then at least no one could say he just feasted on corpses on the way up.
