Do you think the brawl really hurt Boxings image like most of the press are trying to say?

I dont think it did. For me there are probably 3 groups which this applies to:

    1. Those who think Boxing is violent and thuggish anyway and so the brawl has enforced that opinion. Even if it hadnt happened they would still look upon the sport in an unfavourible light.

    2. Those who dont really care or follow Boxing anyway. They all seem to think it was funny and made for great tv.

    3. The Boxing fans. Regardless of who they think was to blame or whether they thought it was bad or not they can probably understand both sides of the arguement and how two hyped fighters could end up coming to blows.

So for me regardless of which group you fall into the image of the sport hasnt really changed. What do you think??

No it hasn't. All that's happening is the media are saying it has - about 20x the amount of media who would have previously been covering boxing. It has got ridiculous of media attention all over the world, mainly negative - but thats what the press do, they take the moral high ground.

However, the average working man across the world will make their own minds up, they go to check out the videos for themselves and have a good old chuckle about it. People who hadn't heard of either man on Friday night would now be tuning in if they end up fighting each other.

Seriously, go on something like newsnow and see the amount of publications who are reporting on this incident. It's gone viral. Every local paper from Itchyballs, Idaho to Chongwong, China has picked this up. Sure, some of those readers will look down their noses at the sport - but you can bet the majority will have find it funny as **** and want to see 'those two guys who had the fight at the press conference' get it on in the ring.

All that's happened is boxing is getting more attention than it has in years. And let's be honest, the only other boxing news that has penetrated the mainstream in recent years is the bull**** about the two top fighters in the sport not fighting each other.

No such thing as bad publicity. I agree it probably doesnt help boxings image but it doesnt hurt it much either. The way I see it, we now get the possibility of an intriguing match up in the heavyweight division, instead of the usual, klitschko vs a poor sap. No one was even considering the thought of Haye vs Chisora til saturday night. I also think it might help bring in some mma fans, who arguably are more into violence and blood than the boxing fan. All in all the incident my be a good thing....

i dont think it did, boxers have been getting into it outside of the ring for awhile, mike tyson obviousely, Chisora -Haye, Berbick and Holmes, Holmes runs up a car and drop kicks Berbick, Lennox Lewis and Hasim Rahman going at it on a ESPN interview between the two..and plenty more to come i imagine

Nobody watches boxing anyway so they don't have an image of it to begin with. When things like this happen, suddenly people talk about it for a few days and then it's business as usual again.

People act like this has never happened before. Lewis-Tyson was a much bigger fight but it was the pre-fight scuffle that got most of the media attention, and people forgot about it after a while.

boxing made page 3 for the first time in years because of this brawl, where-as its barely ever mentioned even in the sports section.

how many people knew dereck chisora before this incident? a hell of a lot less than know him now, it was also the fact that news stories about the fight also showed clips of him slapping and spitting on the Ks, which again most people didnt know about, and today it mentioned chisoras previous assaults on his girlfriend and a police officer.

so what people saw was the scumbag enemy of Vitali Klitschko, who was praised for putting on a brave performance, and his trainer, getting their asses beat down by the loud-mouth enemy of Wladimir Klitschko, who was scrutinized for fighting like a coward and blaming his toe.

    how is that not interesting?

Absolutly. Whats also funny is the fact Haye was there with Box Nation - Boxing pundit assults the fighter he was commenting on and ends up on the run :rofl

Casual people have already a violent image of boxing, even though they know nothing about the sport, so I would not say it had affected it. I mean at the end of the day what they did was fighting and boxing is also about fighting...
