Did the Jirov fight ruin Toney?

Toney did have low testosterone and a shrunken pituitary from getting punched in the head. I don't know if Jirov caused it.

 

It was a bit similar to the Calzaghe Hopkins fight in that one fighter was throwing leather without much effect while the other sat back and potshotted with all the meaningful shots. Difference was that Toney was really hurting Jirov while Jirov wasn't really able to mount any useful offence. It was close on the cards, but in reality a pretty one sided beatdown.

 

Well, the second one certainly. Peter absolutely smashed Toney's dome in, knocked him down and had him reeling like a drunken sailor. Only time I've seen Toney come close to being stopped.

 

Toney took Peters best shots and smiled at him , Fat Sam was never the same again.

The first fight was a definitive robbery that Toney won.

Id need to watch the second again but I am sure there was an argument for either fighter or a draw.

 

Fat Sam went on to beat Toney's ass for twelve rounds in the rematch. If you think that fight even deserves to be called close you're a grade A rock-smoker.

Did you watch the fight? First of all Sam was not fat in that fight. Then there were lots of close rounds where neither man did much. Yeah Peter definitely won it but it was not the landslide the judges made it out to be.

That's not what I was arguing about. To answer your question though, I thought the fight was close and could have gone to Toney without argument.

Jirov was a pretty dirty mofo. Joe Mesi springs to mind also.

 

Didn't he go onto win a hw title after that?
