I think Peters' fight against Wladimir did irreparable damage to him. Vitali then finished icing the cake.
No his lack of passion and desire resulting in undertraining is ruining a guy who whilst one of the better fighters in our era, would not be able to hanf even withe the 90's contenders (Tommy Morrison, Ray Mercer). His fault no one else to blame.
Ridiculous. And he claims he is a "professional" fighter? His trainer's are an absolute joke as well.Pathetic.:dead
My guess is that after the fight the manager and the fighter got into a dispute and the manager gave up on him and Peter lost his motivation. Bad move on all sides imo
I doubt the Wladimir fight did anything to Peter, but I'm positive that the Vitali one did. Peter dropped Wladimir a few times and since he's crazy he's convinced that he really won that fight. He quit against Vitali and had to face the fact that he can't beat everyone.
Really, what's there to ruin? The truth is Peter was never that good to begin with. He has power but that and his chin are his only assets, he simply lacks the skills to put his power to use against better opposition. He made his name based on three knockdown of which two were illegal while getting schooled from pillow to post. The stats read he was losing a somewhat close decision to Wlad while scoring three knockdowns which is totally deceiving.
His power is way overrated. Peter has only 1 KO against a top 20 Heavyweight. The better fighters he fought the worse he looked. If you look at his early career he was carefully matched with Glass Jawed fighters that skewed his KO rate.
You couldn't resist inserting "glass jaw" in there right...JUst try one post without it. Might free you. ANd, what ruined Peter? HAMBURGERS!
He was put in there with Glass Jawed jokes like Jeremy Williams, Taurus Sykes and a list of other fighters with no chin. Additionally they targeted the WBC belt that Maskaev had because of his Glass Jaw. Sam Peter's best KO is Oleg Maskaev. Peter has not KOed anyone worth a crap. He only has 2 KO's in his last 8 fights.
Actually, according to quite few posters on this board prior to the fight with Vitaly, Peter had become a master technician after the 2nd Toney fight.
Win or lose tonight, Peter has not been the same since he fought Wlad. I am not talking about physically, and I don't believe any of the nonsense when people say "Wlad ruined Peter's chin", ect.... However, Peter clearly hasn't been the same mentally. Wlad hurt Peter for the first time in Peter's career, and I think that it made him much more timid about the way that he attacks. Also, I think that taking Peter's undefeated record from him took him out of it metally, he just doesn't have the same drive. Beyond everything else... I think that the fact that it was Peter's first big payday. I think that he is living better than he ever has, and he is way too comfortable to train his ass off and fight like he is supposed to. He has never been, and will never be in the great physical shape that he was for that fight again.
Peter came into the Wlad fight in terrific shape, at the correct weight with the tremendous confidence of the undefeated fighter who has a great chin and punch. He proceeded to get outboxed and hurt and lose that fight. His face was a mess of bruises and he has never been the same mentally. He peaked in the Wlad fight and got beat down by a better man and he knew it at the time. He never even bothered to train properly after that loss, although he did make a final decent attempt in the second Toney fight. As another poster stated he has been more tentative since the Wlad fight and that doesn't suit his come forward, balls to the wall aggressive style.
