It's the chins I'd be concerned about. My god, they may as well be walking around with chandeliers on their necks.

The US and a lot of traditonal boxing strongholds have changed - I am an Aussie and I can see the same factors at work here. Boxing is not a sport that schools support these days thus no scholarships. Football, athletics, swimming, basketball and wrestling are sports that have scholarships. Thus fewer choose boxing to start with.

Football, basketball and wrestling attract all the attention, get all the facilities and most importantly offer the most comprehensive and supported career path for the gifted athlete. Put that up against boxing with its shady image, violent nature and fringe status to the average parent considering their kids future and it's a no brainer.

The astronomical increase in the players wages in the professional codes has also had a huge impact IMO. Compare the earnings of the NFL players where even an average player earns a huge legal salary over a number of years - boxing at all but the elite few level pays far less in comparison.

And the most determined who buck everything and want to fight - they now have a choice between an increasing number of martial arts. I have been in the boxing / Muay Thai scene here for thirty years and the ratio of boxing gyms / shows to Muay Thai / MMA shows has been completely flipped about.

Fighters don't lift to gain weight. Fighters lift for a functional strength advantage. Lifting weights all the while going through a strenuous boxing regimen will not allow for someone to make any sort of gains through weight lifting. I think most people are forgetting that a lot of fighters are still fighting in the 210-220 range nowadays anyways. Steve Cunningham, or David Haye both fight at this weight and both have physiques to match Mr. Olympia with incredible athletic talent. Are they both fat tubs of lard that gas out after a couple rounds like people claim every heavyweight does? No they don't. Even Alexander Povetkin weighed in at 225, and Deontay Wilder weighs about the same. Not every heavyweight is a huge monster today. Some of the more effective ones aside from the Klits are the smaller ones who enjoy an advantage of explosiveness.

It is a fact you moron.

What fighter would want to gain weight that will not be advantageous in any way and will only serve to hamper their performances in the ring.

And you have the audacity to call me an idiot.

    You'd better apologize or else...........:bat1

That could be for a multitude of reasons.

Wasn't he at the lowest weight he was in years against Sasha?

Eastern European men are the biggest, strongest men on planet earth. They easily dominate in all the strength events, weightlifting competitions, strongman tournaments, etc. They have now taken their physical dominance into the ring and will dominate all of the higher weight divisions in boxing for decades. They were banned from professional boxing in the Cold War years and that is the only reason weaker American fighters like Ali and Holmes could attain heavyweight titles. Wlad would toy with those short to the ground mediocre, physically weaker boxers if they even dared to enter the ring with him during their so-called primes.
