Did the long periods of inactivity ruin Josh Taylor?

By that logic, someone could train for 5 years and immediately jump into a title fight. No debut needed as they have been constantly training for the fight.

I think so yeah, if you're still sparring in those 5 years why not....have an opponent announced 10 weeks before and figure a game plan out.

People make too big a deal out of inactivity but the chances are you wouldn't be granted a title shot after 5 years out the ring.

I will hold back a bit and just assume that your are being naive.
No boxer in the world would ever say that.
Active boxers are the sharpest and inactivity is a career killer.

Go take a look at Taylor in the WBSS and then compare him to what he looked like in his last 3. There is a clear difference in sharpness, accuracy and intensity. Not to mention, from a technical standpoint he looks to have regressed.

Another thing to be considered is what a fighters does during those periods of inactivity. If they still hit the gym several times a week, eat right, get plenty rest, I think they can get back to form much faster than if they were drinking, partying and abusing their bodies. I don't know much about Taylor, but his sudden drop off leads me to believe he didn't take care of himself.

Im sure he was in gym the whole time, sparring and staying close to fighting shape. He just got beat by a better more complete fighter.

the ones making the inactivity excuses, are the same bunch who built him up as some top p4p fighter, are the same bunch who say spence aint ****, when spence comes back after injuries and long layoffs looking like a bigger beast each time. they dksab and get all caught up in their feelings.

It wasn't the inactivity, he was just overrated from the get go. But if that's not the case then I want to see him prove me wrong. Get some lesser fights, stay active and get back into it. The division will be buzzing soon and fighters will want his name on their record. Does he have it mentally? I doubt it, plus he's kind of featherfisted so he has to up his combos, crisp punches, and activity a lot.

Showing your age here, I remember my daddy telling me about how 11 months without a fight was considered a long time.

Boys from East Lothian don't like to miss out on a Saturday night.

The day usually starts at opening time so 11am. By the time the footie starts in the afternoon they are already 8 pints and a couple of fights down and that is before the evening shenanigans has even begun.

Taylor knows all about that world I assure you. You can get away with it when you are 25 but at 32 it kind of catches up with you.

 I remember way further back than that and I stopped playing by my rules long ago on here. I play by the rules others set and I'll force them to play by them too everytime they don't want to or conveniently forget who it was who set them.

No. He’s just not as effective at the weight. That Josh Taylor, getting weak and tired by rd 4 wouldn’t beat the guys Josh Taylor had to beat to become undisputed.

    pawned Taylor

Rozanski was 23 months inactivr when he pawned Babic

Charr was 4 years inactive when he beat unstoppable 100% KO monster prime Lovejoy

The inactivity wouldn’t have helped but face it, Taylor was never that great to begin with.

The best fighter he faced was Prograis and he scraped by him with a narrow A-side decision

His best clear-cut win is Jose Ramirez who isn’t exactly elite

He got lucky that the WBSS happened in such a weak division, without it a fighter of his mediocre calibre would never ordinarily become undisputed.
