Did the Thomas v Tyson bout in `87 proved Holyfield could have taken prime Tyson`s best shots?

It showed Tyson stopped a fighter who was not on Holyfield's level, that's about it.

One thing is certain though, Evander fancied his chances right from the start.

We did miss out on a potential ATG fight in the early 90's.

i cant see how that fight has any bearing or insight into an earlier holy/tyson fight. Pinky ate some leather, took them well, but ultimately went the same way. Its arguably Tysons best performance and/or finish

Holy beat thomas one year latter and appeared much busier and faster than tyson to me. But lacked hw power.

To me it looked that holy could give serious problems to Tyson faster watching that fight.

Lets put it this way holy would have done the same job on tokyo tyson what douglas did.

Both fighting in 1988 id pick tyson with rooney in corner in competitive fight.

After that i dont think mike ever had chance with new trainers.

Tyson had success going to Holyfield's body. It's plain as day on film. I watched both fights live and thought he should've gone to the body more, because he had success there. A Rooney trained Tyson does far better and would win. It's my opinion and something I see happening. Only the haters would claim it's a bogus statement, even though the Tyson who fought Holyfield was nowhere near his best. Not even close. Holyfield was. He was active and didn't spend 4 years away from the ring, doing nothing but rotting away.

I like most of your threads. Most can be found in previous threads, but don't let the other posters discourage your thread discussions.

Man do I **** the Tyson haters off!! LMFAO. This is too easy.

It's ok to say Holyfield looked bad against Czyz but it's not ok to say Tyson hadn't looked good in 5 years? I see you bro.

How do you know Holyfield didn't get better by 1996? He didn't look that great against Czyz but he was still beating him. He felt the pressure of having to look good knowing a fight with Tyson was around the corner. He didn't look that great in either fight against Alex Stewart and had his best fights to follow. It's ok to have bad fight before a good fight. It's nothing new and happens quite often.

By '96 Holyfield grew into a full fledged heavyweight. He fought more patiently and wasn't brawl happy. All these attributes made him possibly a better fighter. But then again, who knows.

Having success in fights doesn't mean you automatically win the fight, does it? Check out the 5th round in fight #1. Tyson looked good when landing to the body. For some reason he abandoned that attack. Was it a show of bravado, or did he have trouble adapting in a tough fight because it was his first tough fight since Ruddock over 5 years earlier.

What fights were you watching? It was Holyfield infact who had success working Tyson's body over. He visibly hurt Tyson to the body in their first bout.

Holyfield showed a great body attack against Foreman and would have implemented that in his bout against Tyson, very few worked Tyson's body. Tyson admitted himself that Tillis was hurting him badly to the body, you can increase that hurting tenfold by Holyfield. Foreman stated Evander had a devastating body attack.

Tyson looked his devastating self against Bruno, hell he got Frank quicker out of there then their first bout!!!

Talking of form, the bookies odds showed who we all thought looked the better of the two at the time.

Holyfield wasn't brawl happy? He'd just been KTFO by erm...... Trying to brawl with Bowe.

Oh dear god, this mythical 5th round. Tyson went all out in a bid to turn the tide of the fight but Holyfield fought fire with fire and soon showed Tyson who was boss. Holyfield was never in any danger in 14 rounds of sharing the ring with Tyson.

Holyfield couldn't knock down Thomas but Tyson did.And Tyson beat quicker Thomas than Holy obviously Tyson's performance against Thomas was better.

Bowe tee'd off on a washed up Thomas with clean shots and Thomas didn't go anywhere. Thomas was just a tough SOB.
