I suppose their hands are tied for the sake of consistency. It is a banned substance. Ortiz should have disclosed this, but there is a chance that he didn't even know it was banned himself since it is just blood pressure medication prescribed by his doctor.

The WBC must know this is going to really annoy (insert expletive here) the fans

Ortiz was the second ever live dog he has signed to fight in his career, and we have still not seen old big mouth Deontay in with another top HW.

This really hurts the WBC and Deontay.

This, many times. Also what has been overlooked in this thread is that when this came up - reading between the lines the WBC demanded more info from Team Ortiz to find out how suspicious it all is.

Their conclusion has looked clear to me that it is NOT to cover up PED use, however.... the course of medication has been a result of Ortiz having blood pressure issues to the degree he has been hospitalised for it and one of the deciding factors for the WBC cancelling this is not actually to punish Ortiz for cheating, but both communicate that EVERYTHING has to be done to ensure they actually have a fighter who is healthy enough to compete.

This means Ortiz right now, and also that in future other boxers take note and ensure they declare any health concerns that they really should have before - like Manny Pacquiao previously with his shoulder injury he entered the Mayweather fight etc etc. Fights turning out anywhere from "less competitive" than they should be because of an injury all the way to possibly tragic if Ortiz has an aneurysm or heart attack while fighting because of an under lying health condition.

I am a huge Ortiz fan and am absolutely gutted by a decision that could end what could have been an exciting later career - as opposed to fading into obscurity.

I really wanted to see that fight. No sympathy for Ortiz though. He knew he was on shaky ground with peds and should have taken the proper precautions. Wilder and Stiverne is a sad state of affairs. Worst fight of the year.

The WBC allowed Salido vs Vargas to continue after Vargas if I remenber corectly got popped for worse...WTF we talking here about if they did "the right thing" ?

Yea they did the "right thing", and thats to protect the hopes of Deontay getting his cashout check against AJ, and the most corrupt organization in boxing to bank in some huge fees.

WBC should never allowed Wilder's team to call the shots when Povetkin tested for trace amounts of meldonium. It has labeled him a ducker and the WBC as his protectors. His resume is awful. And the two threats to him have both been removed - it's a terrible look. In a weak division no less.
1 top 10 opponent in 40 fights after 9 years for an Olympian.
It's why people are not going to his fights or making him a star. It smells of fraud

    No.

They allowed the Salido fight to go ahead, also Stiverne failed a test not long back so in essence they've took one "cheat" out of the game and replaced him with another.

Yeah, but Stiverne shouldn't have been mando or the replacement though.

How did Stiverne get ranked? WBC can't explain that for sure! Conte explained it to the WBC but the WBC refused to listen, the doctor the same, blood pressure meds are not PEDs. They will protect Wilder. Showtime will not show the Stiverne fight. VADA and the WBC are destroying boxing. I guess VADA will ban food next...........

The strategy all along is to protect Wilder. Here is a guy who has avoided two superior mandatories on dubious drug test positives and instead fights a shell in Arreola, pastry chefs, supply teachers, football hooligans, ex nfl players and an inactive slob that failed a test but let's forget that because he's no threat and he's Don King's boy.

    Yes.

Going into a fight on blood pressure meds is like taking a weapon into the ring. It give one a tremendous advantage and is possibly fatal to the opposition.

I always take my blood pressure meds when I think there's going to be trouble.

The one time a squad of tattooed bikers wanted to beat me to a pulp at a bar with chains and bats and stuff. They were all like "Oh, we gonna beat you to a pulp with our chains and bats and stuff". Then I pulled out my bottle of blood pressure meds and after they checked the label they were all like "Sorry" and I got free beers and hoes off them. True story.
