what the hell are you talking about there always have to be an origin first came the WBA and WBC then the IBF finally the WBO. there are so many lesser belts out there it is less than likely that one will become legit.

At this point the wbo definitely matters, maybe even more than the wba and wbc since they are now sow corrupt, I just asked because Im kind of stuck when determining a guys legacy.
Imagine the wbf becoming a major belt in 20 years and people saying omg holy is the best ever, dude won a title at 46 (or something like that) when in fact here nobody cared.
Ring holds the most value imo but we cant call wbo bull**** now since barrera, wlad, calzaghe made it relevant.
But what about hearns and leonard, im pretty sure it was meaningless when they won it yet we call them 5 division champions, leonard was even able to get a whole new division out of a catchweight fight for 2 titles.

In terms of "legacy" I don't think titles matter much at all. Unless you beat the best relevant opposition then a title reign means very little. A title doesn't even guarantee you are in the top 5 in you're division these days. If I create my own corrupt governing body and award myself a title, is my legacy better than Sam Langfords?

Mattered enough for Chris Eubank to make £20million/$40million defending it!

It was originally used as a fraud belt or stepping stone belt. Naseem Hamed gave it the most recognition by keeping it, while unifying and discarding other belts, mainly because the WBO didn't enforce mandatories. Eubanks reign helped the belt but at the time Eubank was little more than a glorified British champion. Barrera, Calzaghe and DLH were notable winners of the belt in the 90s but didn't get true credibility until they went after other belts and other champions

However in the early 00s the WBO actually moved up their rankings a dead fighter

It shouldn't be important now, Boxers, TV Networks and Boxing fans need to unite and only recognize one Lineal Champion in each division.

Tommy Morrison's defense against Tim Tomashek surely added legitimacy to WBO title.

    from boxrec:
Tomashek literally came out of the crowd to replace Mike Williams, who refused to leave his dressing room.

I really think the Klitschko's helped bring the WBO to its importance

other greats held it but usually it takes heavyweights to make something important

most heavys who had the WBO early on either relinquished it to go for a better belt or were not that good and didnt reign long

Wladimir won the WBO defended it multiple times and was taken seriously enough as the heir apparent to Lewis while holding just the WBO

Do we count wlads title defences when looking at lewis record, or does he need consecutive wins since 06
