Vargas claims he wore loaded gloves and in round 2 Tito hit Vargas with a jab that staggered him. Joppy had solid punch resistance and Trinidad walked right through him and then ofc we know Nazim Richardson spotted something unusual when Tito was getting his hands wrapped.
The only fighter I know of where solid proof is Margarito vs Mosley. I dont think Tito would stoop that low.
No, he used the normal method of tape, gauze, tape, gauze. There’s a technicality in NY/NJ on it but even those states state if the opposition approves it’s ok. It’s a legal wrap everywhere else in the world. I ask those sore losers “what do you think going tape, gauze, tape, gauze do to make you hit harder?” If anything it lessens the blow because it moves the knuckles further from the glove. It’s simply to protect the hand. Other fighters confirmed to use this method: Mayweather, Chavez, Canelo, Pacquaio, Marquez, Finito, De La Hoya and I’m sure a million others like Vargas (who roided against him btw such a sore loser). You can’t really increase the impact of tape and gauze unless it’s wet for a long time before. For Vargas to claim that is irrelevant, Robert Garcia was in the room and he’s on record as saying there was nothing wrong with the wrap. Same as Naazim said. Oscar got pulled on it (actually Oscar was worse because he applied tape across the knuckles which IS illegal) vs. Ruelas. Never understood why the stigma stuck somewhat with Tito.
From what I remember it was Joppy's camp who made the claim after the fight. And I think the Hopkins camp asked for a re-wrap before they squared off (mind games?). But I don't recall it ever being more than a brief rumour which didn't appear to have proven substance.
He had stacked wraps and possibly skinned gloves but i wouldnt call them loaded. He hit plenty hard enough anyway. The other day i tried on a 300+ dollar pair of cleto reyes 16oz and did a few rounds on the pads and punch shield i was shocked what kind of a difference it can actually make vs my 60 ish dollar 16 oz daniken. Felt night and day tbh
