Morrison fought over 300 amateur fights and won about 280 of them. If Mercer didn't go to olympics it would have been Morrison and there is high chance Morrison would have won olympic gold in 1988. Joshua only won olympics because of his athleticsm and politics in London.

If you compare just skills. Do you think Morrison was better skilled fighter than Joshua? Morrison already had the skills at the very young age but Joshua is still learning in the progress.

No! Morrison doesn't put shots together as good and had poor defense. Both are close though .Morrison was highly underatted.

If Joshua fought in Morrison's era, he wouldn't have gone as far as Morrison. If Morrison fought today, he'd be the best in the world.

Edit: And I'd say the same thing for a handful of other guys from that era. The current state of HWs is pitiful.

In some ways.... Ya, he was, as crazy as it sounds. He might have also been a more powerful puncher. If you want to watch some clips of boxers who were "born punchers" Morrison is as good an example as you can find. Especially his hooks. The explosive snap and twist from his feet all the way up through his legs with perfect transition through the waist and the quick, short, compact form on his hooks...…… Beautiful to watch and you could literally see how powerful they were if you even edited out his opponent. I mean, without even seeing some of his punches land, from start to finish all the way through you could see how much immense power he generated and the fluid transfer and transmission of it all. Morrison was legitimately a massively born banger.

If they fought though no doubt in my mind AJ KO's Morrison.

Actually this is a fight I think Morrison possibly surprises a lot of people and maybe savagely KO's Fury. Morrison had the speed, footwork, explosiveness, arsenal, and accuracy to drop a warhead on Fury's chin. I think Tommy could catch Fury with a better shot and cleaner than most other fighters.

Also, Fury and his featherfists wouldn't deter Tommy in the least. Tommy at times had absolutely porous defense and could be very hittable and vulnerable but I don't see Fury's punches gaining Tommy's attention let alone his respect.

Unfair comparison Joshua has been reaching his full pro career. But he's found a way every time. He admits regularly he's learning as he goes. If Joshua some how learned lateral movement and head movement he would truly be something special. So if you are going to compare the two I think it would be as fair/unfair to say... who would have the better boxing skills Joshua or morrison if they both had the same amount of amateur fights.

Its funny because AJ one of the most overhyped fighters but at the same time undersold by just as many. Yes hes probably the best HW in the world right now and if he were back in the 90s era im not sure he beats the top guys in the sport but I don think he gets dominated and couldn't beat none of them. I think he'd be a solid HW who would give the top guys a good fight and maybe knock one of them off but he definitely wouldnt be the man like he is in todays HW division.

Morrison definitely had better skills than Joshua. That being said, he still might have lost to Joshua. It would be an interesting fight.
