Did Top Rank choose wrong opponent for Lomachenko?

I think that would be horrible mismatch, Romulo Koasicha, 25-4, got schooled by Lee Selby (109-119 on all cards) and also has 3 losses to jorneymen.

Loma's all opponents (besides Ramirez) were clearly better IMO.

I hoped they'd pick Veteyke, Gradovic or Sonsona.

All of them are worse than Russell Jr and would've been dominated by Loma, but still they are better than Romulo Koasicha who is just a waste of time.

Fighting twice a year against poor opposition wont get him anywhere.

If he's going to take these kinds of fights, he's got to be more active. That's fine if you're fighting 4 times a year and have another good fight lined up to follow it, but Loma's too good to be fighting twice a year and having this guy take up one of the slots.

Agree. Don't know what Top Rank are thinking of.
Same with Rigondo last couple of years

Yep. This'd be sound advice for Rigo too.

A lot of the top 122-130 guys are with PBC and Arum doesn't do business with them so it limits options.

Frampton,Selby,Mares,LSC,Pedraza, Russell are all on the PBC platform

If he wasn't a titlist and being paraded as a superstar, it'd be perfectly fine.

    But that isn't the case.

Loma rides on his one victory over then-unranked Gary Russell Jr (perhaps he was #9 or 10 going in). But the win almost immediately aged amazingly and does indeed look good.

Arum is seriously dropping the ball with Loma, he should be fighting 3 times per year.

I agree, not only that it doesn't make sense to do this, what's the point of feeding him opponents that he can beat with one arm behind his back (literally, watch the Piriyapinyo fight lol) with total ease, it does nothing for him in terms of progression either. He needs to be in tougher fights and Arum has just wasted a year of his prime.

    Yup.

I get that he's only had a handful of fights, but this really isn't too far of a Murdoch situation.

    Promoters; grow a sack.

    It's funny and odd, too.

Loma seems to genuinely sit on the "high risk" end of the Risk vs. Reward equation. Just that he, like everyone else, has the promoter on the opposite extreme of the "reward" end.

That's true. Loma wants to fight the best available opponents, but he doesn't take part in choosing them.

I'd understand if Arum was having hard time getting good opponents. But Loma should be fighting 3 or 4 times a year with this level of opposition.

Loma's career has been managed poorly since Russell Jr he should be a much bigger star than he is now. Not fighting enough and facing this no hoper next isn't a step in the right direction. He may need to look into leaving Top Rank if this continues.
