Fury was on the canvas when the stopwatch started (just about), but if you look closely the tenth second counter never makes it to three, let alone nine. So I doubt that 10 count is legit.

Not that it makes a lick of difference anyway

It was eating him up when people took more to Fury than him in the build up and now with reign as champ looking more paper-y than ever he's saltier than ever.

Long count short count, it doesn't matter does it.

This has gone on before and will go on again, Wilder just can't accept that he got beat and is clutching at straws.
Same happened after Douglas KTFO of Mike Tyson, I remember a presser when he and his team were all there watching replays of the knockdown counting the seconds.

At the end of the day it is a ten count, and all the fighter can do is listen to the ref counting and get up before ten, what are they expected to do, rummage around with there gloves on and start a stopwatch.

Well technically the counter in the video started right when Fury's glove hit the canvas which was before his body hit. The glove hitting the canvas after a punch technically constitutes a knockdown. That said, it wasn't a long count because you can't expect the time keeper to start the count at the moment the glove hits. The timekeeper is inclined to react after Tyson's body hits, which is a tenth of a second or two after the glove hits. Then there's going to be another few tenths of a second of a delay from when Tysons body hits to when he reacts to it and starts the timer. So all in all there's about a half of a second delay to when the timekeeper would have started the count from when that video starts the timer at the millisecond Fury's glove hits on his way down. Technically when the glove hits is when the knockdown occurs, but there's going to be some what of a delay for the time keeper to react to Tyson's body hitting.

One thing that video does show though is that Wilder clearly left the netural corner during the count doing some kind of a moon walk lol. So technically Jack Reiss could have looked back at Wilder and stopped the count mid-way through and told Wilder to go back to the neutral corner. By the time Reiss was at about 8 and 9, Wilder was closer to the red corner than he was to the neutral corner. So if Tyson was counted out there, there could have been controversey about why Reiss didn't notice Wilder had left the neutral corner and paused the count.

One thing's for sure : it was definitely not a long count. You can't expect the count to start the millisecond a glove touches as a guy is falling down lol. The timekeeper is going to react to Tyson's body hitting. Even then Tyson still got up before 10 seconds had elapsed. And when it's that close, the referee does have discretion to determine if he's up in time, so I can't fault Reiss for not counting Fury out. Lets put it this way, if Reiss had counted Fury out there'd be a LOT more controversy and outrage, and rightfully so.

I think we need to give Reiss credit for not just waiving it off right when he saw Fury flat on his back and unresponsive for a few seconds before he sprouted back to life. Many refs unfortunately would have probably waived that off prematurely and Fury would have a loss on his record that he didn't deserve so that would have been worse.

There's a lot to process here, but no, it wasn't a long count. Reiss did a fine job, and I'm not sure we can expect him to look over his shoulder to see Wilder out of the neutral corner when the count was at 8 or 9, at that point Reiss has to be looking at Fury to see if he gets up, so not seeing Wilder venture out of the neutral corner can be forgiven. But that still needs to be mentioned especially to those who claim it was a long count, as a way to say "even if you think it was a long count, Reiss could have looked over his shoulder and saw Wilder in the red corner and paused the count for that making it a moot point".

Wilder is still proving people right that he's a classless loser, dude can't even see in the video he posted that the timer at the end was sped up. It's eating Wilder up more and more by the day that he's not liked, he knows he lost the fight and Fury is now the star in boxing. And with the way Wilder conducts himself in his classless ways, he will never be the people's champion and that will always haunt him.

watch Jack Reiss' interview, you USED to have to walk to the ref, but then the doctors changed it to making the boxers walk laterally so they can see how in control of their bodies they are when they have to change direction

Right but while the ref is instructing that the opponent go to the neutral corner, the timekeeper has already started the count and it's become standard for the ref to look at the timekeeper to pick up the count when he is finally over the downed fighter. It hasn't always been that way though, in the 20th century this rule was changed several times and there was a time when refs didn't rely on the timekeeper at all and started the count only after the fighter gets to the neutral corner. That's not the way refs are instructed to handle knockdowns today, but it's not something that has always involved the timekeeper and an automatic starting of the count before the other fighter gets to the neutral corner. There have been title fights throughout history where the rules was for the ref to start the count (at 1) only after he makes sure the other fighter gets to the neutral corner. Nowadays, that's not how refs are supposed to handle it, and that's not how Reiss handled it here.

It's hard to see if Reiss even instructed Wilder to go to the neutral corner. This crowd video of the knockdown moves out of focus right after Tyson goes down so you can't see if Reiss actually instructs Wilder to go to the neutral corner - from the broadcast video it looks like Reiss just sort of sees Wilder go towards the neutral corner then gets right to focusing on Fury while relying on the timekeeper for the first few seconds. He was so focused on Fury he never even noticed Wilder left the neutral corner during the count lol. That's why it's so important for fan-made crowd videos because broadcasts commonly miss stuff like that. I mean without that fan camera we might never have realized Wilder left the neutral corner during the count which should result in a pausing of the count !

Well I had no problem with the count. I think Tyson just has unbelievable recovery rate, and that Wilder is looking for any reason to how he won, when deep down he knows he lost. What I am impressed with is how wilder has handed this draw. he hasn't hid away. He's gone on TV etc raising his name knowing people are going to tell him he lost. Big respect for that.

he made the refs 10 count. I hate these long count bullspit debates. Fury did what the ref asked and continued fighting. If anything it was great refereeing. why cant people celebrate a decent fight...

the long count accusation worked great for Tyson v Douglas, making King and Tyson look like fools when it was proved Mike got the same count. It does no good, it was a draw which Wilder should be thankful for, Fury was robbed of the points win so shut up man.

yes but since fight night many many fans have been claiming that it was a long count lol. It clearly wasn't when you study the footage. This just goes to show how some fans only will see what they want to see and are very reluctant to admit they were wrong after they go out on a limb like that. Many fans on fight night stated that it was a long count and now after seeing the replay, have to walk that back now that they watched it back and see that it wasn't a long count.

I've even heard this argument used to avoid admitting that they had it wrong by claiming it was a long count : "the count FELT long"

The count felt long people lol even though it wasn't, the cries of a long count on fight night and the day after are once again boxing fans just seeing whatever it is they want to see. Then when cornered with the cold hard facts on video footage, many still refuse to just own up to it and say they were wrong in claiming a long count lol. And don't try to deflect and start criticizing Reiss's style, or how he checks to see if fighters can continue. That's besides the point : if you claimed that it was a long count, own it now that you realized you were wrong, and don't use anything else to cover for that error. If you want to point out that Wilder moonwalked out of the neutral corner, that's something that would actually justify a long count, a pausing of the count, even though there wasn't one.

    Fury > Wilder
