Consider the prime Tyson rarely went the distance is it difficult to say wether Tyson had bad stamina? When you watch his fights with Ruddock 2,Douglas and Holyfield 1 he seems to gas towards the end.
Thats what happens when you get hit alot.Physically Tyson was a fighter who generally was in peak condition espcially in his early days. But due to his lifestyle and penchant for the high life aswell as his lack of dedication from the early 90`s onwards he simply fell to the way.
Early Tyson, no, not at all. Later Tyson, yeah a bit, through from a lack of dedicated training than a physical flaw.
The matches you named were either after his prime, or fights that were tough for him. I thought his stamina was fine in the ruddick fights, of course your going to get a little tired if a fight goes the distance or gets into the championship rounds, if I had to rate Tyson's stamina in his prime I would give him an A-, outside his prime I would give him a C+, maybe B-, when you throw alot of power punches, your going to get more tired than someone who sticks out the jab and picks his shots. Most, if not all the trainers Mike has worked with over the years, said he's animal in training camp, even Mike himself said the mental condition he has helps him work harder when it comes to training.
Tyson's stamina post Prison was lousy, pre prison it was fair at best, that's why he fought at such a fast pace early in a match, once an opponent took him past 7 rounds Mikey knew he was in for a long nite:yep How many opponents did he KO Past the 7th round duting his career..???
I think Tyson was just caught up in his own hype and wanted to waste alot of punches and energy on knocking guys out early. Going the distance wasn't in Tyson's mind ... Alot of HW have done it ... I never seen Tyson pace himself and just box.
Off the top of my head, he went 7 with Ruddick, Biggs, Nielson, Riblata and got the knockout, went the distance and won against Ruddick, Bonecrusher Smith, Tucker, and Green. I might of missed one or two, but he did go the distance and showed good stamina in doing so early in his career.
Tyson's love for the sport of boxing was lousy post prison. Everything that was pure about the sport to him was gone ... people were using him and he had no one he could trust. He didn't seem the same once Cust D'Amato past.
I think you miss the point that the only people that went past 7 with prime Tyson were just there to survive and wouldn't have been KO'd if the fight was 20 rounds.
