No, drugs ruined Tyrell, even before he got into boxing.Cat was a big basketball star out of West Philadelphia High School with Gene Banks, and drugs ruined him at Hampton or whatever university he was attending at the time.Even as an amateur, he was a bit suspect, crying after the first Stevenson loss.Tyrell was a nice fighter, but in retrospect, probably not one to be at the top echelon for a great while, not having strong punching power.
Tyrell had one hell of a resume..Tyson unbeaten damiani unbeaten Bowe lewis mason all same..unbelieable list...Ty lacked a big punch. good boxer good guy.
I never knew Ty had a problem with narcotics, I remember Tyson laughing after this fight about whenever he hit Ty in the gut, he would scream like a little girl.. I remember Lewis beat up Ty worse than Mike did, so it's obvious Ty just didn't have what it takes to compete at the top level.. Ty was a good amateur fighter, but at the pro level, he had no punch, strength, or any kind of pop on his punches, he lacked the mental strength ad well.. Too soft to be a top heavyweight..
