And beaten like that and surrendering is pretty much the worst way to lose a fight. It's all been beat out of him & it'd be better to go out earlier. Fighters that go out like that always suffer some permanent damage and their effectiveness takes a slide along with their reflexes.

That first knock down wasn't actually a knock down in the sense that his knees didn't touch the canvas and it is incredible how Tyson shrugged off the upper cut on his eye by walking around for a few seconds as if it was nothing and then told the ref he is ready.

Even in the second knock down, after the punch, Lewis had to push him down which should have been ruled as illegal.

Lewis was just about in the final stage of his career, naturally the 1990 version of Buster would have destroyed this Tyson in 2-3 rounds, heck Danny Williams and Kevin Mcbride finished that version of Tyson much faster than Lewis.

But many Tyson fanatics say Lewis was still in his prime, I think it's clear to see he wasn't.

To be honest that is how most knockouts/losses happen.

Very few fighters are unconscious when they are counted out.

No need to make a particular issue of it in this case.

Lets be real Lewis was just 1-2 years away from his best versus Tyson who had been dead and burried in Boxing since 1990

But, Lewis was much closer to his prime than Tyson was to his prime.

    Chronological age v. Boxing age.

When Lewis turned pro Tyson was already regressing sans Kevin Rooney.

    He had suffered several beatings.

Lewis had been one shotted twice but never sustained any sustained beatings.

Tyson was a bit younger chonologically but was much older in boxing years.

Just like when Dwight Braxon aged 28 stopped Matthew Saad Muhammad age 27.[/QUOTE]

Russell, Smokin Bert and mcvey like this.

Just STOP WITH THIS BULL****. I Cannot STAND Tyson fanboys. Lewis went into this bout with a BROKEN ****ING HAND. Tyson had much more left in the tank as he fought multiple times after, while Lewis on the other hand fought one more time.

This was basically the last fight where Tyson's pride overrode his lack of condition!

Shame for him that he didn't go out on this note!

He did not go into this fight with a broken hand, he hurt his hands and his hands were the most sore in his entire career during this fight and his hand was not broken at any stage, it may have been aching but not broken as evidenced by the numerous upper cuts and right hands and straight punches he threw in that fight.

Tyson was elite when he stepped in the ring that night. He was elite when he got into a fistfight with Lewis at the announcement and ended up biting a chunk out of Lewis' thigh when they were on the floor brawling. Tyson was elite when he obliterated guys like Andrew Golota and broke his bones (the same Golota who would come back and appear to win the IBF and WBA belts from Byrd and Ruiz).

Who was more elite than Tyson in 2002? Kirk Johnson? Hasim Rahman? John Ruiz? Jameel McCline? Chris Byrd? Fres Oquendo?

Tyson was the top contender at the time. He was only behind Lewis (world champ) and Wlad (who had the WBO belt). And Wlad was a few months away from getting stopped in two by Corrie Sanders.

No, Tyson was MOST CERTAINLY elite the night he entered the ring against Lewis.

Then Lennox Lewis beat the living hell out of him. And Lewis beat the fight right out of him. That was the fight that took Tyson's fire.

Lewis and Tyson didn't have a rematch clause. Their original contract was actually for TWO fights, not one. Back to back. Because the networks wanted it.

Of course, the first fight was the biggest PPV in boxing history. The rematch was expected. Both had already agreed to it and had signed the contracts earlier. But Tyson refused to go thru with the rematch. He didn't want to fight Lewis again. Lewis even took Tyson to court to try to force him to honor the deal, but Tyson begged for some tuneups first.

Lewis broke Tyson. Nobody previously broke him. Tyson was still his angry, dangerous self after losing to Douglas and Holyfield.

Lewis Broke Tyson. In the ring. Beat the fight right out of him.

Very reminiscent of the Holmes-Ali situation
