Diaz draws guys into tear ups with his talking then wins as he has an iron chin and good cardio. GSP will not enter a brawl as he seems to not care about exciting the fans or winning by stoppage. GSP wins an even more boring fight than V Shields.
Sorry dude, Hardy performed better? That guy got taken down on GSPs whim, and outstruck. Ya he looks some serious bend in his arms and didn't tap but what danger did he pose in that fight? I know you are trying to get at the people who picked Shields but get real, Kos showed intelligent striking? He landed something clean in only two of the 5 rounds. And I don't even remember him going for a TD.
Intelligent yes, when someone has a high guard like GSP to protect from hooks that Kos has been known to ko people with then any coach will tell you to throw an uppercut to counter this defence. Effective is a different story though as we all saw. But atleast he tried something, Jake was just jab jab jab
I didn't say Hardy performed better - as I said Shields got the par score for a GSP title challenger. But at least there's something you can point to in the match that was impressive, even if it was only last gasp defensive skills. I can't even say that for Shields. And watch the fight again - Koscheck did go for takedowns and as Stoo explains his striking showed more with about it than Shields. Now it wasn't effective but with the exception of a poke to the eye neither was Shields. And Koscheck at least had the 'excuse' of having a BROKEN ORBITAL BONE! Also notice how St. Pierre never went for kicks against Koscheck - that's because he knew that a kick would see him get taken down but he had no such concerns against Shields.
The jab when used effectively can set up many things. And though in this case not very effective, this was still more than what Kos was actually getting to land.
Yeah people are acting like Nick Diaz is clearly the number 2 at 170 to GSP when imo that is not clear at all. I wouldn't be so sure that Diaz would beat guys like Fitch or Condit.
Yes broken orbital bones are always spontanious occurences that have nothing to do with a fighter letting himself get hit repeatedly, you can go on to bigger and better things will.
Okay you're just being ridiculous. Yes GSP got a power jab and yes it hurt Koscheck. But that doesn't change the fact that after this injury he still showed more heart, more determination and more intelligence in his approach to the fight than Shields. All Shields did was go into survival mode. He didn't even try to pull guard for crying out loud. Anyone who tries to spin this in a way that suggests Shields deserve an ounce of credit is a moron.
I never said he showed more heart, I just said he was a bigger challenge than the other two, even if he did not fight so intelligently.
The fight went exactly as it was predicted by most to go. Shields couldn't get GSP down to the mat and GSP outclasses Shields on the feet to an easy decision without taking any unnecessary risks.
Pretty good breakdown of the fight (shockingly so for BR) is at http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...icisms-are-mostly-ridiculous-and-hypocritical
