Did Vitali beat Lennox up, and scare him into retirement?

People seem hung up on the fact that Vitali was ahead on points when he got stopped. So what? Look at how badly he was hurt by that point. Even if the doctors hadn't stopped the fight, do you honestly think he could've kept up a performance gushing blood like that? Does anyone think he could've continued taking that kind of damage without permanant results over the 12 round distance? Of course not. The fact he was ahead on points means nothing.

Yes, I'm sure that Lewis was absolutely terrified of Vitali. Certainly no opponent he had ever faced before had any kind of dangerous reputation, or desire to punch him in the face as hard as they could.

By God, that Vitali is a scary man. But he has such dreamy eyes, wouldn't you say?

I dont think something as derogatory as "scared into retirement" is fair at all. Like someone else said, the fact he struggled against an opponent who in years gone by he would have mopped the floor with just opened his eyes...
Speaking of open eyes Vitali's was nearly on the canvas! :blood

    Dominated? Really?
So he won all 6 rounds & had Lewis holding on for dear life, he landed the harder shots & scared Lewis so much he retired?

    Just utter, utter nonsense.

What else was he gonna cut him with? A knife?!? :!:

The point you fail to grasp is that, a 'gassed', 'beaten up' Lewis stopped Vitali. If the fight went on Vitali woulda been spending some good time in hospital, fact. For facial reconstruction if nothing else. Credit to him though he gave Lewis a helluva fight, but lets put it into perspective. Vital was a hungry young gun, and Lewis the older proven fighter. The most important fact is the Lewis clearly won the fight! There was nothing controversial in it. Dont bang on about the fans, US sporting fans are the most fickle out there!

Not this shiite again!!:bart So what Lewis may have been losing the first few rounds but came back into it and the fight was stopped, Big Klits face was like a horror mask, the ref saved him from getting lifelong facial injuries and problems.

It was a 12 rounder ffs. So that vitali was slightly ahead halfway means nothing. Lewis was gettin more into it and landing big shots himself which left vitali looking like somethin from a SAW film.

    He won get over it

Its so simple this one, the best Vitali Klitschko could not finish off the worst Lennox Lewis. Coulda, woulda, shoulda and all that **** isnt an argument. Vitali started the fight great but it was Lewis that was getting back into the fight when it was stopped and more to the point it werent a nut that busted him open it was Lewis' straight rights that threaten to rearrange his face.

Note both fighters since the fight, Vitali constantly tried to get Lennox out of retirement coz he knows his legacy needed that win. Lennox, if he trully thought he needed to beat him again, would of but he didnt he's at peace with it. An example of this is Tyson, despite both fighters being past their best look how Lewis reacted and the commentator 'Lennox Lewis closes the book on Mike Tyson' or something to thay effect. He knew he needed that win for his legacy, he obviously didnt feel the same regarding Klitschko II
