Vitali missed about 3-4 years because of the injuries which put him out. He missed from age 33-37, those could have been his physical prime years as an athlete, were it not for the injuries which forced him to sort of exile.

Vitali looked his best vs. Peter and also he was pinpoint vs. Williams and Sanders. Between then might have been his prime, we'll never know.

Always thought the win vs. Sanders was underrated. Sanders was a deadly force that fight, so confident from how he defeated the #2 in the world Wlad. His confidence was sky high, his one punch handspeed was amongst the best in history, power was devastating, but after some early scary moments, Vitali just dominated him and beat the living **** out of him. A loss there would have killed the Klitschko name. The pressure on Vitali was enormous. Sanders gave it his all and hung in there and was dangerous at all times. But Vitali stepped up and dismantled the tremendously underrated threat that was Sanders. That and Peter may have been his two defining moments, along with the Lewis fight.

No, he is a Cyberdyne system model 101, a neural-net processor with a 120 year existing power cell.

Remember when Byrd did a Margarito on VitKlit?

You know he walked him down, pressured, broke him apart and made him submit, reminded me of Cotto - Margo.

Possibly, Vitali would certainly have had more of a claim to the HW title now than he does.

Deadly force? Damn... imagine if he'd have shown up in shape!! Spin this however you want, but Sanders was NOT a top 5 HW at the time and he was an out of shape non-top-5 HW.

I admire the hell out of Vitali, he's a helluva fighter; but this win is nothing better than the beat down of the king of the 2nd tier. Could Sanders have been more? Yes. Was he? Other than 6 mins vs Wlad, no.

Oh, to point on the thread... yes, VK did lose some prime years as he was clearly rounding into form just post Lewis. The Johnson/Sanders/Williams triumvarate was a very unfortunate run for a very good fighter - in the end, they don't look good on paper and at the time Vitali could have beaten very, very good fighters.

It's a shame, as I think VK could have taken on any comers. As it stands, we're left with 2 1-shot top-tier journeymen wonders (Sanders/Williams), a good fighter who shrunk in the spotlight (johnson) and a very good fighter who seemed to have pretty much given up the sport (Peters). VK deserved better and may have found it in those intervening years (Chagaev, Valuev? At least old Holyfield? Put an end to Ruiz?); right now we can just hope something reasonbly worthy comes his way. I rather doubt it, though.

Actually, Vitali could've been fighting before he was injured. The guy in your avy scared him pretty good considering what he did to Lennox. Vitali never did fight his mandatory Rahman on like 3 different occassions. I thought Vitali would win, but he retired without fighting Rahman, and then was injured and retired...I guess.

I think his prime would have been 2002-2007.

However, Vitali needed time to heal up from his injuries, but it's a shame he lost those four years.

In the old days Vitali would fight a kick boxing fight, then go and fight a boxing fight! It took a lot to take that much punishment, even with a win. Vitali was way ahead of Byrd fighting with one arm, but the surgery from that injury took almost 2.5 hours! Then a knee injurys, back, etc., but he is training in a somewhat different way now which helps him keep injury free, at least for now. He is healed.

    You're back !

    And better than ever.

The Byrd - Vitali fight reminded you of Cotto-Margarito ?

That's amazing, as it happened some years earlier. But it reminded you of a fight that hadn't taken place yet.

    And you saw similarities ?

Like Cotto was leading by about seven points with a couple of rounds to go ?

And Byrd wore Vitali down with his 'hand of concrete" ?

BTW, since you've been gone, some questions have come up regarding Marg's ethics around what he puts in his gloves.

Shane's corner exposed an attempt to cheat, before Shane laid a serious ass-kickin on Marg.

Anytime years are lost in the ring PRE 30's is lost time.

The bias and lies about Klitschkos by so many, including biased boxing media makes haters become delusional.
