1) Did Ward actually win this Olympic semifinal? 2) The referee ruled there were ZERO knockdowns. How many knockdowns did YOU count? - Many disregard amateur fights as irrelevant to the pro game. - Many would say it was a long time ago and Ward has grown into elite level ever since. - Many would expect Ward to reset Kovalev each time on the outside and the inside and get a UD. But... Ward was still put 3 times on the floor by a full fledged GOOD 175lbs fighter from the Soviet school of boxing.* Ward apparently struggled against a heavier opponent with hard punch AND high output from the Soviet school of boxing. Please watch the fight and answer those 2 questions honestly. Don't respond without WATCHING the fight and refreshing your memory. http://youtu.be/DpApEDdzNkg
Damn good fight, btw adil where do you get that this guy was a heavier guy? Amateurs do same day weigh-ins so i doubt the weight was very different.
If you listen to Ward ramble long enough you get the sense he thinks his amateur fights are part of his pro career. Latches onto that Super Six trophy as if its solid gold. It was an old hockey trophy that Ken Hershamn bought at the pawn shop after he assembled that meaningless tournamnet. It was sand blasted and re engraved Super Six.
Maybe you are right, but Ward and Hunter repeatedly said he was undersized in LHW in the Olympics, and Ward was going up only because Dirrell got to participate in MW. And to be honest, I got this impression because Ward was on the floor 3 times in this fight. This can be attributed to being hit 3 times and getting 3 flash knockdowns, or to bad balance, or to the stronger and heavier opponent. Or combination of all.
I counted 1 legit knockdown. Everything were slips. You can tell Ward and Dirrell probably helped each other a lot. They both have a similar style or at least they did. I cant believe people thought those two would fight each other in the Super Six. That was a scam they ran to save Dirrel's career and make it a little easier on Ward to win the tournament.
Ward had the frame to easily start his career at LHW. He did what almost every fighter does at one point. Drain themselves for a size advantage.
