He did so much wrong, he didn't have very good distance, his balance was off, and he stood perfectly square a lot..
depends on how "we" rated him before the fight. i never threw around the words special, or great, when rating him.
No, we underrated Beterbiev. They're both incredibly skilled, as evidenced by the match itself. Gvozdyk was right there in the fight, which was tit for tat up to the 8th round.
He boxed very well, but he was up against a guy who was a tank who wasn't discouraged in any way by Gvozdyks (respectable by previous evidence) power.
Gvozdyk was ahead on two of the cards what's so overrated about being stopped by probably the hardest puncher right now?
He fights like he's working the heavy bag. Lot of telegraphed shots. Threw from out of range and moved awkwardly in the wheelhouse. Very predictable. Plain boxing by numbers. Decent boxer but was definitely overrated.
Nope, you are just not used to watching two top guys fight. Too many of today’s matches are far from 50-50. Two prime guys fought and one won. It used to happen all the time in boxing. No gimmicks or BS, just boxing. I give both guys lots of credit for taking this fight. No A side, no catchweight nonsense, no fight between a faded older guy and golden boy, no questionable decision, just a championship bout between two prime guys. I hope we see more of these because it was refreshing.
No Beterbiev is just freakishly strong and heavy-handed, a much smarter and more skilled fighter than many have credited him with being, and he has a hell of an engine on him and he can keep up that pressure whilst maintaining his strength, power and intensity from first bell to last and in short is a nightmare to deal with. Gvozdyk is very a very talented fighter himself but Artur was just too strong and relentless for him. It was a very high level skilful and exciting affair and I do feel that Gvozdyk could've fought better. However, trying to keep someone like Beterbiev off of you and rolling right through you has got to be an incredibly draining and discouraging experience both mentally and physically and most fighters would've been overwhelmed a lot sooner than the teak-tough Gvozdyk was. Those right hands Beterbiev was sinking in downstairs sounded like bombs from a HW and a big punching one at that. Brutally powerful shots.
Gvozdyk is a top 10 p4p talent. He did really get exposed for a lack of an inside game though. He never had to use it before since he had such good footwork, but Beterbiev really just hunted him down and just chopped him down like a tree.
This fight was similar to his fight vs Adonis Stevenson with the only difference being that Stevenson she failed him.. Had he not gassed he would have put him away in the 10th just like Beterbiev did.. Gvozdyk has elite skills but has trouble with physically stronger guys.. I think he beats Kovalev(this age) and Bivol but Beterbiev would always hold a mental edge over him that with the right trainer he can overcome it.. Does anyone know why he’s not trained by Lomachenko’s father like Usyk??
