Lets just cut the crap about the fight being a draw, because we all know Whitaker CLEARLY won it. So my question is did Whitaker beat a prime Chavez? If not, would Whitaker have beaten any version of Chavez? Personally I would say yes, but what do you think?
Chavez prime was in the mid to late 80´s when he was at 130 and later at 135 so no Whitaker didnt beat prime Chavez with that being said i cant see any version of Chavez beating a prime Whitaker.
No we don't. That 'Sports Illustrated' cover was the most deceptive piece of propaganda in boxing history. The TV anchors had it level at the end of ten, and then switched their narrative 180-degrees by the end of the twelfth. I watched it recently and had Whitaker winning by two points. Hardly 'easily'. Either way, it wasn't JCC's "prime".
Well, Chavez was never a welterweight and it was around that time he started slipping, so I'd say no. I think both guys were at their prime at 135. At that weight though, I'd pick Whitaker over any lightweight not named Duran (and I even view that as a 50/50 fight).
Pacheco did, Czyz didn't. And Pacheco is a Chavez fanboy and even he couldn't find a way to justify the draw.
My option is... Withaker didn't beat a prime Chavez, but it would be a 'pick em' if they both were. About the actual fight they had, I think Withaker edged Chavez in that one, but I can live with the draw.
I am not reffering to sports illustrated, **** them. I´m just saying it was a clear victory for Whitaker, he edged it in the championship rounds and made Chavez look foolish from time to time, maybe it was´nt "easy" but Whitaker I believe would have beaten any version of Chavez, and he won that fight it was not a draw.
Na, Chavez was slightly past prime and above his best weight but so was Whitaker. I don´t think Chavez would have beaten any near-prime version of Whitaker.
