Wilder maxed his potential and maxed his profit. Thank god for Al haymon, look what he done for Floyd all them years.
People of his stature doesnt have great coordination to begin with... He is like the regular: Breazeale, Wach, Price etc in that regard. Hard to improve that...
Wilder has been talking about wanting to fight fury for his whole career. What evidence is there to suggest he "only" took the fight because of this? When was wilders other opportunity to fight fury that he passed on? He fought him twice in 6 months give the man some credit
I think he maxed it out. He is not willing to learn new skills and use them and that's all due to his ego. But to come away with a world title and have 10 defenses with his title is decent considering he fought people who were clearly better boxers but couldn't handle the power.
Neither. He has neither squandered his potential nor has he maxed it out. He's lost one fight in his whole career to the largest man to ever hold the World heavyweight title (and he flattened the same guy twice in their previous fight). He's getting another shot at the World Champion in October. The career of the biggest puncher in heavyweight history continues on.
For that reach of his, he missed out on using the jab more. Should have fought better opposition early on, making him more versatile. For me, he looks too onedimensional. Its too late now for correction.
Still an active fighter remember. He only fought guys who let him tee off on them with swings. Maybe now he'll learn some skills?
I think it hurt him fighting so many tin cans for so long. However, I understand why it was done considering his fragile mandible.
It is not entirely accurate to say either, and to answer, you really have to set perimeters of what you are talking about. Look, the man obviously has athletic ability, the relevant thing to boxing being a good right hand. But he is naturally arrogant and dumb as a post. When you hear the stories of him telling his corner that he does not need to learn footwork, these sorts of things, it is fair to say that he really didn't have much potential. Regardless of the right hand, the character flaws were too great. But they did manufacture an impressive looking career though fixed fights, part-time fighters, and medically unfit opponents. That record is ephemeral, and disappears when one looks at it too long. Really, he has no win to equal those of many non-titlists such as Shavers' over Norton, Cooney over Norton and Lyle, Quarry over Shavers, Lyle, and Foster, etc. But he is a titlist. Did he maximize his potential? Did he squander it? What do these terms even mean with a career that is basically a total sham? I would say the answer to the question will be determined entirely by what he does next.
He Comes across as very slow witted, juvenile minded individual I don’t think he ever had the basic skills to develop and expand upon them to reachworld level bossing ability he did have a big wind up right hand but, even that was and orthodox and very risky Very limited skill, he had Overachiever; relying only on his awkward, wind up and swing from the fences, right hand
