I honestly think he's just after a mega pay day vs AJ and would happily call it quits if he lost.
Worst part is that you can see in his body language especially during the AJ Wlad fight that he knows he won't hold off AJ.
Ortiz was never going to happen, I think he knew that.

Wilder claimed that he wanted to fight Ortiz because of all the criticism he has been getting for fighting bums, winos from the alley. So now, as before, another threat has been framed............Joshua will be framed also, so he'd better be ready. Wilder has no chance against Joshua and Wilder knows it. The bums/winos don't have to worry about being framed. It's funny that none of the winos have tested positive for anything. This excuse about blood pressure medicine is a disgrace as proven by Conte!

I'd say that he didn't REALLY want to face Ortiz, but, as Badbot points out, he DID sign the contract and should at least get credit for that.

He probably didn't want to, but without big wins (at least one), he can't require more than 20-25% of the revenue from the fight with Joshua

I personally think Ortiz took a big was of cash just to take part in this media debacle. Would you turn down a massive payday for NOT having to fight and for playing a role in a little bit of manipulation. Wilder gets his bum fight on TV now. Ortiz will get cleared and everybody is happy. It's like step aside money only sneakier.

Wilder signed the contract, then it appears that VADA framed Ortiz so Wilder could make an excuse for not fighting anybody and will now fight his 6th voluntary title defense! That is the pattern with the others. In the Wilder fight, Povetkin was cleared by VADA, but the WBC still wouldn't allow Povetkin to fight Wilder, it's because he was a threat, Ortiz is a threat, none of the bums/winos tested positive because they are not a threat! Wilder will fight winos for years..................he will not fight Joshua, he knows Joshua will knock him out! Joshua might be framed as well, so he'd better be ready, this is getting to be a pattern! Vlad fought Wach while Wach was on PEDS................and still beat the crap out of him, but blood pressure medicine?!

He didn't actually want it but definitely wanted the credit for wanting to fight him.

Ortiz was paid 500K to step a side. Now Wilder can fight another bum and next year cashout against Joshua. Then he retires in Alabama and have enough money to take care of his daughter.

Given Ortiz' history, it was always a possibility.

That said, this fight shouldn't be derailed for blood pressure meds and I hope it goes ahead.

Wilder,WBC,VADA and Al Haymon just got Ortiz out of the way for Joshua [Ortiz is his mandatory] so Wilder can cash out next year and retire on few mil pay day [im not sure if it will be 5-10 mil or less/more?].Thats the plan all along.

Anyone know what are the paydays for Wilder since he became WBC champ btw ? I recall 500k for Washington fight, wonder if he will get a lot of money vs Joshua due to having WBC or 'just' 5-10mil.

Wilder has never shown the desire to fight anyone good. That isn't going to change imo unless he gets a big payday. Ortiz wasn't ever going to give him that.
