Yeah the UFC thing is weird, but there are 8 million people inthe city and 40,000 attendance shouldn't be unmanageable.

But the thing in boxing now to showcase a fighter is to fight a Carribbean in NY or a Mexican in LA or LV. That's why they picked Ortiz.

I don't think it was a case of not wanting to, I don't think he had much choice.

Joshua fought Klitschko in a monster event with monster PPV numbers and it was actually a extremely entertaining fight, Joshua's reputation and profile have rocketed.

Now if Joshua does fight Wilder next year then it's very clear AJ is the main man, he will call the shots, so Wilder had to find better opposition and try to find an impressive win to try and justify what he will most definitely ask for financially.

You can't expect anywhere near equal terms with Joshua in a stadium fight if your best win is Stiverne and most of the world think you're a joke.

Wilder has to roll the dice with somebody boxing fans regard as dangerous, he had to be in a fight were opinion was somewhat divided and Ortiz did fit the bill perfectly in lots of ways.

He has been regarded as a very dangerous man, some people claim he was avoided by a lot of the top heavyweights and he can most definitely punch.

But Ortiz is 38 years old (looks 48 years old to me) and in his last couple of fights lost some of his shine but they were relatively low profile fights so the casual boxing fan would have still bought in to the high KO ratio, unbeaten record and reputation.

So he was looking beatable, looked to be on the slide but was unbeaten and regarded as a top heavyweight, its what you'd call the right figh at the right time.

winning the belts is more about gaining recognition as 'the man' at HW rather than anything else, since the federations will only split them up again

But I totally understand some American's desperation to have a HW champ. And why they dont question the Molina , Duhaupas, Arreola, Splilka , Washington defenses in a row.

If Wilder would've been Canadian, I wouldn't say a peep about him.
But Canada doesnt have USA's rich history at the HW division also.

Please  As if that justifies the level of delusional hatred this guy gets. The guy has signed to fight two of the most dangerous fighters in the division... they get busted for drugs and people **** on wilder for it

Practically everyone brings up those defences  The amount of fans that give Wilder a pass for his resume are an extreme minority.

Not only. Absolute world champion in heavyweight, this is a very valuable "Trademark Symbols", which can be used to attract sponsors and advertisers

Wilder did not want to fight Ortiz, Ortiz is a threat. Wilder simply signed a contract to fight Ortiz because of all the criticism he has been getting for fighting winos from the alley....................5 voluntary title defenses in a row! VADA and the WBC will protect him as usual. Wilder is so happy that he does not have to fight Ortiz that he has diarrhea of the mouth! He can't stop running his mouth he is so happy. So now he can claim that he did not duck Ortiz, but Conte made it clear, Ortiz did not take a PED, same with the doctor, but that does not make any difference to the WBC, his protector....................The winos who were not a threat, not of them tested positive. This was just a dirty trick on boxing fans to save face..................is was afraid................

We don't get a lot of fights in the state of florida because the athletic commission is extremely complex and limits a lot of things. The UFC does not even like coming here.

I think ita because wilders level of opposition in he's first 30 fights was beyond woeful and makes Anthony yardes current run beating up homeless Hungarians look heroic.
Added to that Nichols dropping him and scioners almost finishing him, boxing fans even 5 years back felt they were long over due seeing wilder get sparked out.

Then you have the malik Scott dive , fighting a sick man for the title and constant embarrassing voluntaries , fans feel cheated and like this whole thing is a manufactured joke.

This is why wilder is the first fighter to get abuse over he's opponents failing drug tests, because he's career seems so shady and ridiculous that it actually seems like the logical idea that wilder had some hand in it and never intended fighting them

Added to that he's a women beater, beats up the mentally handicapped and attacked mike Tyson's resume while he's is terrible only adds fuel to the fire.

Boxing fans feel right now they are long overdue seeing wilder leave the ring on a stretcher and anything which delays that any further will only lead to increased hate for wilder
