I thought I read somewhere here that prior to the fight being announced Wilders team had tried to avoid Povetkin and offer him another fight, does anyone know the story or have a link to the information.

That man was praying whilst in the UK for the WBC to call the fight off.

He would've been slayed in Russia

Back in late 2015/early 2016 it was reported that Wilder's team tried to make Povetkin vs Martin so Wilder would not have to defend against Povetkin.

Wilder also tried to unify with Martin instead of the Povetkin fight, but the WBC wouldn't have that either.
I don't know what option came first, but it was very clear they didn't want the Povetkin fight at all.

The puny Povetkin knew he couldn't compete with the devastating bronze bomber without his precious PED's. Deontay made to look bad again, from another persons inferiority complex. If something goes wrong, this year with Ortiz. The haters will blame Wilder for Ortiz heart problems. Shame on them.

Am I glad this Wilder/Ortiz fight is probably likely to possibly happen, with any luck.

Really still a good chance something will derail it. And maybe Ortiz will for some reason 'not be at his best' on the night.

But if it does go ahead, the whole Wilder saga will take a step towards conclusion one way or another.

Wilder, Fury, Haye, Pulev, Browne ... and ... Briggs, Oquendo, Malik Scott and a few others are sort of clogging up the division by being there in the background neither winning or losing against any fighters of note.

lol@ at Wilder being able to make other people fight each other :nut:

It was Haymon that tried to get Wilder that fight , not Povetkin. The WBC ruled it out so they were forced face their mandatory. Thats all there is to it.

    It's pretty clear it wasn't a fight that Wilder's handlers didn't want.

Firstly Wilder was offered $10 mill to fight Povetkin in a voluntary after he first won the title and Finkel said that they were not interested and Wilder wouldn't be rushed.

    http://www.*******.com/wilder-not-rushed-klitschko-says-finkel--86714

Wilder was mean't to face Povetkin after Duhaupas but some agreement was made so he could fight Szpilka, maybe they promised Povetkin a shot after Szpilka or paid him step aside money, whatever happened Wilder's handlers ensured they once again didn't have to face Povetkin. But instead Haymon tried to unify Wilder and Martin but the WBC wouldn't allow it.

    http://www.boxingnewsonline.net/deo...r-povetkin-to-unify-world-heavyweight-titles/

WBC then finally ordered the fight had to be made. Unsurprisingly they couldn't come to terms and the fight went to purse bids. Wilder's team bid $5 mill which is 2.5 times as much as they have ever spent on a Wilder fight, they were clearly desperate for the fight to be in the US but Rabinsky's offer of $7 mill won the bid.

Once Wilder's team heard of a positive test, they decided within a few hours not to get on a plane to Russia and booked flights back to the US from the UK where they had been preparing. They didn't wait for a B test, they didn't wait for the WBC to make a decision, they forced the WBC's hand and made them postpone the fight.

It's pretty clear they were never eager to fight Povetkin.

Sounds like you're listing off Wilder's up and coming items on his resume.

Yes I know they tried to make Wilder vs Martin. OP was asking about Wilder's team (i.e. Haymon) offering Povetkin another fight. Here's the link:

    https://www.ringtv.com/416173-what-we-know-about-al-haymon-part-v/

"Multiple sources say that Haymon tried to make a title unification bout between Wilder and Martin but the WBC refused to release Wilder from his obligation to fight mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin. Then, in a further effort to protect Wilder, an overture was made to Team Povetkin to see if the Russian would fight Martin instead but the Povetkin camp said no."

Thats a lie. Why do you keep repeating this lie?

    Thats what Finkel said.

Where exactly does it say that Povetkins team offered him $10m for a voluntary fight?

Wilder likes to complain about ped use and how he will still go forward with the fights even if he believes fighter is dirty yet I find it strange he pays for extra testing of opponents.

Almost as if he’s going out of his way to get fights cancelled.

He clearly says that they could of fought Povetkin for $10 mill but didn't. That sounds like an offer was made, either that or Finkel was making **** up, why would he say that was an option when it wasn't an option?
