3 times? I take it counting is not your strong suit.

HBO forced Pavlik on him and he was happy to get out of that fight. He wants it even less now. I'd tell Pdub to take the standard challengers split or go elsewhere. You think HBO will put up the money for this fight now? :-(

You have to take the one time Pdub's folks backed out and count that against Kelly too.

I think the fight might have more of a chance to happen. When Leonard saw Hagler struggle with Mugabi he saw Marvin might have been a little worn out by the Hearns fight and all the middleweight title fights, so he agreed to fight him. Pavlik might have watched the fight last night and maybe he thinks he can knock out Williams now.

I think Kelly ALWAYS thought he could KO Pdub. Goosen won't let him after last night.

I think your basic principle is okay, but there are other factors. Pavlik did not plan to lose $$$$$$ millions through inactivity, or spend thousands on doctors and hospitals, and we would never have talked seriously about Pavlik/Williams if not for Pav's efforts. No matter what Goosen ask for, or how much Top Rank wanted to walk away, KP said make the fight happen. KP always wanted it and was always confident. The hand issues got in the way, and that's all there was to it.

However, there is little doubt that Pav would be more confident than ever after last night. In addition, his gross income for 2009 will probably amount to about 1/3 of 2007 and 2008. He could be hurting for money. That might make him willing to take less, and make the fight more likely.

Looks like Goosen is attempting to cash out with Williams at any time... anyway, Pavlik should win by KO if they ever meet.

if Williams fights Pavlik like he did against Martinez it will be a easy night for Pavlik. Although Williams did bounce back very well after the first Quintana fight I wonder if he bounce back after the Martinez fight.

Either way I still think Pavlik KO's Williams in 7-10 rounds
