Not questioning if he'd be fine ... directly commenting on how he'd do against many of the names ... I agree with all of his skills ... it's the chin, the suspectability to speed that are in question to me ... "who did u share the ring with and in what capacity ?"
I've seen Wlad get hit and go down in sections..... fall apart knockdowns. Plus he is slow and mechanical. He does not have great fighter skills....period. Anyone who can really tap that chin can knock him out. It's a testament to the crappy nature of the hwt division and boxing fans that do not know what they are looking at that Wlad is where he is today.
I disagree with these: 1)He has tremendous footwork, amazing sense of timing and distance, ability to completely control other fighters, as well as a laser jab and right hand 2)chagaev hit him clean a few times, including one decent shot after the bell rang. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQyCnRuHAdM&feature=relmfu[/ame] 42 seconds in tony thompson tagged him fairly often with power shots in their first fight heavyweights have tagged wlad, clean, and he didn't go down. i don't buy the argument that if his whiskers get tapped, he's out. he's been hit by big men, a number of times and stayed up.
Wlad didn't lose his hook, he lost his fluid combination punching ability and general aggression. The Wlad of the Mercer fight would have destroyed guys like Thompson and Rahman in a few rounds, but might also have had problems against fighters like Peter, might even have lost against them. This current style is horribly boring but it's also incredibly difficult to beat. H2H I'd choose this version to go back and fight past legends over the more destructive but flawed earlier incarnation.
For a fighter with such an apparently simple style it's astounding how many people continue to totally misunderstand him. And this jerk above me has the temerity to accuse others of the same. Slow? Robotic? All it takes is one punch? Welcome to 2005 buddy.
I agree that his run of opponents since the Byrd fight hasn't been as strong as it would have been in the 90s or even early 2000s but I don't think the gap is as astronomically wide as it's portrayed. Certainly someone like Chambers or Ibragimov could have caused past champions some problems due to their speed and awkward style, Haye as well, not to mention Byrd himself (one of the more underrated HW fighters of recent times). Certainly lesser fighters have done so.
Someone really needs to make a "Subtle Skills of Wlad Klit" video in the vein of Louis. It would be boring as hell to watch, but it would clear up a lot of misconceptions (and deliberate falsehoods) put forth by his detractors. Maybe even a "Wlad Klit has an Iron Chin" vid? Nah, maybe that's going a bit too far. But yeah, Wlad's taken some bombs in his time and not crumbled. I think it's high time to revise the opinion of the fragility of his whiskers. What say you, Haye fans?
:good He becomes this after his losses with the help from Emanuel Steward. Emanuel Steward formed Lewis into an ATG fighter, the same does he with Wlad. More and better footwork, defence.
:good The fight against Chagaev was one of his best performances. I hope Emanuel Steward will recover soon and we will see another great peformance from Wlad with his trainer Emanuel Steward.
I'd say he hasn't had a weak performance since Calvin Brock. Pretty amazing when you consider that even the best fighters have a night off, here and there.
It takes balls and heart to come back from successive embarrassing defeats. In sports just like in personal life. That's what separates men from boys.
