Did Yoka just had a bad day or is he not that good after all?

For someone with an Olympic gold medal and 12 pro fights, he looked like an amateur fighting his first pro fight.

 

Maybe not in boxing, but there are other combat sports

Jokes aside (internet users of a certain age will recall the proto-memes about Google returning "did you mean French military defeats?" when searching for their victories) - they have decent ones now and then. Yoka just isn't one, at least after crossing the amateurs threshold. He isn't even the best in a while - you need go no further into recent memory than Hassan N'Dam N'Jikan to find a superior pound for pound fighter.

And if folks want to gripe that HNN was actually born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, and restrict us to children sliding out upon the soil of France - well, fine. I'm not convinced Yoka is or was ever any better (again, in the pro game) than Jean-Marc Gilbert Mormeck or Nordine Oubaali.

 

Yeah, add the fact that he was born in a country that is famous for age fraud and I see why there are some doubts.

 

I thought Yoka would develop into a top 15 HW, which isn't a terribly high for an olympic gold medalist, but alas I don't think he'll do even that.

 

He will probably have a more underwhelming run when all's said & done than a light heavyweight bronze medalist from that same year, in Buatsi.

He is the African version of 28 (probably closer to 45 in real life )

 

According to the judges scorecards he did alright in a very close fight and was unlucky.

 

Apart from being a giant I never saw anything special in yoka. I just never liked his boxing. In boxing you need a brain, and yoka has none. With no brain you dont go very far in boxing.

 

agree bakole is underrated. I totally loved his fight yesterday.

edit: I didnt like his defense, though. Just to say something bad about him.

 

CHINS MATTER in boxing, and Yoka doesn't have one. He can pad his record with stiffs - which is basically what he was doing up to this fight - but when he fights live bodies his punch resistance just isn't up to snuff.
