I thought Silva's performance was outstanding tbh. He dominated Leites, who couldn't do anything, on the ground or otherwise. However I didn't enjoy the fight, because Leites didn't come to fight at all. When Silva came into strike Leites would just drop to the ground out of the way. The gulf in class was clear and Leites fought like a *****, and I just can't hack seeing that in a fighter. I was immediately pissed off.

Now, leading on from that, the UFC need to put a ****ing live body in front of Silva ffs. The last two title defences have been ****ing shambolic. Cote and Leites shouldn't be anywhere near the cage when Silva is in there. I mean, they could have even put Maia in there, who I feel is a little unproven, and he would have put up a fight and at least deserved it more than Leites. Okami, Maia and Marquardt are above him in the pecking order. They need to pull their ****ing finger out!

So Lietes wouldn't engage Silva on their feet, that makes him a *****. On the other hand, Silva wouldn't engage Lietes on the ground, so shouldn't the same logic be used?

Silva could have and should have ATLEAST tried to end it.
Lietes did engage Silva in the last 2 rounds but was just over matched, as a matter of fact I'd say that Lietes tried engaging Silva just as much as Silva tried engaging with Lietes.
Silva seems too cautious now-a-days, thats what seperates the legacy of someone like Chuck Liddell and Silvas legacy. Chuck was not and still even being half the fighter that he once was, STILL isn't afraid to mix it up with guys. Silva seems to concerned with keeping the belt then having people like him.
He can apologize to the fans all he wants after his garbage fights but he doesn't do anything to change their feelings. Chuck can get KOed his next ten fights and people will love him.

I don't remember the last time Anderson has takin a decent shot....that takes alot of skill in itself. I just think he could have been a little more aggresive against a guy like Thales who posts little threat on the feet.

People want to see the Anderson Silva that beats people down.

That person did not show up because he did not want that person to show up, for whatever reason.

Maybe he got sparked out in practice and realized he doesn't want to take the chance in it happening in a real fight? So now he just dances around and popshots people from afar, and when he sees how much better he is then his opponant he then tries the occasional unorthodox strike? Who knows, but I think this is the Silva we are gonna see from now on.

It was just a bad style match-up. Simple as that.

Of course Leites wasn't going to engage Silva in a striking war, and he wasn't successful enough with his takedowns to get the fight were he wanted it. Silva on the other hand was dominating the fight, so he isn't going to just leap into Leites' guard and give him his only chance at victory. Silva also was careful not to extend himself out too much on his strikes, giving himself up for an easy takedown.

It's hard to look great, or put on a great show when your opponent is playing strictly defense. In the end, it was up to leites to try and turn the fight around and open up more. After all, it was Thales who was losing the fight. Silva has no obligation to put himself at a greater risk just to please the fans in a fight that he is dominating. It isn't as if he never has exciting fights. Not every fight is going to set the world on fire.

Silva looked disinterested and Leites was flopping around. That made for a terrible main event. The first 90 second of the fight consisted of dancing around without a single punch thrown. It was like watching Kalib Starnes vs. Kalib Starnes.

I don't believe this whole Silva wanted to be safe and defensive stuff. He had Leites on the ropes and could have put him to sleep dozens of times. You're telling me Silva is willing to engage with Franklin, Henderson, and Leben...but suddenly he's terrified of the striking of Leites? No. Silva just looked like he didn't give a flying **** and didn't take the fight seriously. He looked bored with fighting...and it's bizarre.

I think the difference is that Hendo, Franklin and Leben are offensive minded fighters. They force the action which played right into Silva's hands. The last two guys whoe fought Silva have come to survive, hence things get a little on the boring side.

I liked it because i fight MMA, I have no idea why people didn't like it. i remember some early UFC fights when Wrestlers were the best fighters, they just hugged each other on the ground for 3 rounds.

Im split between yes and no, but mostly no. I enjoyed seeing Silva fight again, but it was frustrating in the sense that if you've watched Silva before, there is usually more offense involved. This fight lacked action overall considering that it went the full 5 rounds. Most of Silva's previous fights had more action in 1 round than what was presented in last night's entire fight. Yes, a lot had to do with Leitas, but at the same time, I think a pre-champion, hungrier Silva would have taken Leitas out last night.

He spent a hell of a lot of time doing nothing or pulling off strange moves like this.

The man was bored to tears and had no desire to fight Leites or had any respect for him.

Leites was there for the takeing and shoud have been put to sleep within 2 rounds.

Silva showed later on that he could have done anything he wanetd with him and a lot quicker.

There was so many times where silva was standing at arms length and did not punch but just waved his arms around. At the same point Leites get's likely his only ever title shot and doesn't go for it ,doesn't leave it all on the table just is there to not get hurt.

Thats true. It must be scary as **** fighting that guy though. I'd make Kalib look like Margarito if i ever had to fight him.

Who do you think's got the best shot of beating him at middleweight? Marquart?
