Everyone is debating GGG-Canelo. What do you think of the fight itself? I thought was a pretty good fight. I see some articles calling it a great FOTY candidate from ESPN and The Ring (of course LOL) which I think is getting carried away. It was a tense competitive matchup fought at a high level. I don't think it had the consistent action level or enough drama and shifts in momentum to really be considered a great fight.
The fight? I really enjoyed it was an intriguing brutal tactical battle. First few rounds were a nice warm up for both fighters and after 3rd round the fight was an absolute treat up till the decision. 8/10 for the fight itself but the enjoyment dropped down to 3/10 because of the decision.
i voted 8 only because the decision and subsequent stink it produced killed what i thought was a great fight fought at a high level between 2 elite fighters. had ggg gotten the nod we would all be praising both fighters and hoping to see a rematch!
It was good, I'd look forward to a rematch if this fight was ruled in GGG's favour. Seeing as they ruined the outcome there shouldn't be a rematch, because its going to happen again.
Not sure which fight will beat Wald vs Joshua. That was a 10/10 from me. The two early knock-downs, Wald defying time so even plenty of UK fans got behind him. Was amazing to see.
I liked it. Would call it a good fight, not great. What surprised me as a GGG fan was that Canelo seemed to land the harder punches although I still thought GGG won the fight. Oscar should have explained to his one judge that 7-5 would have been good enough, 10-2 was totally unnecessary. Doubt the rematch will be much different
I scored it an 8/10 The longer the fight went the better it got Especially Canelo's comeback in the 10th 11th and 12th!
Here's another 8. Overall the fight was a gem, a real classic that pretty much fulfilled my expectations. Canelo has never looked as good to me and GGG was simply relentless in closing him down. Watching the last three rounds in slomo, I was blown away by both their defensive skills as punches that I had counted as landed by both men were actually slipped, parried or deflected. What I didn't like was Canelo's marathon running, although he did make up for it with some sweet bursts of action. Golovkin frustrated me by starting so slowly and by not going to the body and by not pressing the action on the ropes. The god-awful judging was another downer that I could have done without.
I would call in a very good fight but not great. It was a case of two well matched skillful fighters putting on a classy performance that didn't quite explode, tactical but exciting. Reminded me a bit of De La Hoya v Mosley in that way. scored 8
I loved it, two elite and truly GREAT fighters banging away for all 12. ONLY reason I'm ok with the draw is it almost guarantees a rematch or hopefully 2
Back from my - no doubt entirely justified - ban, I'd like to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this fight. Was an intriguing and competitive bout. Scored it 116-112 GGG on the night but gave Canelo an additional round on second viewing. I'll give it an 8/10. Looking forward to the inevitable rematch. Pity about the abominable judging.
